Well, he's got 2,901 right now, so barring a major injury, he's going to get it next season. So, how do you think the hype leading up to it and ceremonies will be? Huge? Moderate? Off the radar? Let's discuss it all!

I expect a big deal to be made about it, after all there was a whole marketing thing behind Alex when he resigned. Honestly, Yanks don't really need gimmicks to sell tickets."After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

Of course, it won't be like Jeter's 3,000th (considering he got all of them as a Yankee), but it'll be a lot of fun to watch."After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' His post season career is actually fairly good.
Personally he looks hurt. An off season of rest and maybe he gets back to at least hosting regular season performance.
I also do not see many good fits without them taking down most of that contract.
