congrats to the a's and their fans.
12 homers in just over 100 at-bats last season.

the practically risk-free acquisition came about after the white sox bought out thomas' 2006 option for $3.5M and oakland agreed to paying thomas $500,000, plus health- and plate appearance-based incentives that could reach $3.1 M

    it already happened

Thomas agreed to a $500,000, one-year deal with Oakland on Wednesday, giving the A's the big right-handed bat they've been searching for in the middle of their lineup. He will be formally introduced today

If healthy, the A's will have gotten a steal wuth Frank.Even if he does get all of the incentives,$3.1 million is not bad at all.

It will be a little wierd for me to se him wearing green and gold the first few times, but I think he'll eventually settle in nicely.

    Best of luck Big Hurt.

It's time to cut the losses and move on. Not that signing Thomas will vastly improve things.
between a healthy Frank Thomas (even in decline) and a healthy Erubiel Durazo, Thomas is a far superior hitter. at the very least, Thomas has never gotten injured while sitting on the bench as Durazo seemed more than capable of doing last year.

Re-confirmation of Frank Thomas rumor to Oakland

I was on the way to work this morning listening to ESPN radio, as usual, and they had mentioned that the Athletics have been talking to Frank Thomas more this week. Its looking very likely, but not a 100% yet....

    Why?

Why did the A's not resign Durazo. He was one hell of a batter...talking to himslef during at-bats! . He's also a very good hitter. Why get rid of him AND Scott Hatteberg?
