  • Frank Thomas could be headed to Oakland.

    From Rotoworld:
Before leaving the winter meetings today, A's GM Billy Beane met with free agent Frank Thomas.
"He looks fantastic," Beane said. "The best I've ever seen him, actually." ESPN's Peter Gammons expects that the A's could have Thomas signed soon. The Twins were supposed to be the primary competition.

I've heard that one too recently.IMO,Thomas would be a good fit as a DH in Oakland. If healthy,he could hit really well in that ballpark.

But at the same time, especially with the emergence of Dan Johnson at 1B,what happens to Erubiel Durazo?

Durazo is a free agent, and he will NOT be back with the A's. I've read that Toronto and possibly Arizona are interested in him.

I've brought up the Frank Thomas possibility before. I think it's more likely that he'll be signed than Barry Zito being traded away.

Speaking of Zito, how would a Zito for Alfonso Soriano deal look? Of course, Soriano would have to be signed by Texas first then traded, along with some salary compensation....

Frank Thomas an A? It will be a strange sight to see him in green and yellow instead of the White Sox jersey.

                Why?

Why did the A's not resign Durazo. He was one hell of a batter...talking to himslef during at-bats! . He's also a very good hitter. Why get rid of him AND Scott Hatteberg?

Durazo was Beane's "holy grail" a few years back. IMO, part of the reason why he wasn't resigned was the fact he didn't produce like Beane thought he would. I sorta think he was an underachiever, and played a bit lazy the last year and a half or so. Plus getting injured isn't a good way to lock down a new contract. It's time to cut the losses and move on. Not that signing Thomas will vastly improve things.

Re-confirmation of Frank Thomas rumor to Oakland

I was on the way to work this morning listening to ESPN radio, as usual, and they had mentioned that the Athletics have been talking to Frank Thomas more this week. Its looking very likely, but not a 100% yet....

between a healthy Frank Thomas (even in decline) and a healthy Erubiel Durazo, Thomas is a far superior hitter. at the very least, Thomas has never gotten injured while sitting on the bench as Durazo seemed more than capable of doing last year.

If healthy, the A's will have gotten a steal wuth Frank.Even if he does get all of the incentives,$3.1 million is not bad at all.

It will be a little wierd for me to se him wearing green and gold the first few times, but I think he'll eventually settle in nicely.

                              Best of luck Big Hurt.
