I have been spending some time looking into the times of Dan Howitt. He's an interesting athlete and I've been looking for any history of him from people that might remember his time with Oakland. I've found some standard statistics and articles but was wondering if anyone remembers anything else about Dan Howitt's last homerun was against Nolan Ryan,a grand slam. Thanks.

Howitt signed a card for me not long after he hit the slam of Ryan. Dan seemed like a cool guy with a quirky sense of humor.WAR? Prove it!

Was a power hitting prospect back in the A's late 80's early 90's glory days. Player they'd thought would be Dave Parker's replacement as the lefty pop, DH, give Big Mac a day off here and there as a 1b. Didn't really pan out, never got consistent PT and as a young player, you need that. If I remember correctly, didn't have a high BA, struck out a lot, typical for a power prospect.

Once upon a time (must've been in 1989) I was attending a Huntsville Stars double header and Dann hit homers in both games. He led the team that year with 26. For some reason, I got the bug to start a Dann Howitt collection last year (along with another Stars' slugger, Steve Howard) and have managed to snag all but about 2 of his 32 known cards.Clyde's Stale Cards - A blog about the international world of baseball cards.

I'm missing his 1987 Chong Modesto A's card and his 1994 White Sox Kodak card. I just put up a website for my player collection wantlists and am adding galleries for what I have. The Dann Howitt Gallery can be found here (in the links on the left):

I'll probably write him a letter someday soon, but I have enough problems writing emails to family, much less a fan letter. I enjoyed watching him play in the 1989 season here at Huntsville, though. He provided the power that we didn't get from Ozzie Canseco that year.Clyde's Stale Cards - A blog about the international world of baseball cards.

The Dann Howitt collection is now complete (whopping 31 total cards, check the gallery!) so I might as well start on a Joe Law collection. I think I might even have a Joe Law autograph somewhere...(more than I can say for Howitt, either he avoided the wall on the 3rd base line or I could just never catch him signing at the games).Last edited by DaClyde; 07-28-2008, 07:21 PM.Clyde's Stale Cards - A blog about the international world of baseball cards.

That's cool, what's he doing these days?
I'm thinking I might start up some Pat Dietrick and Scott Hemond collections once I've finished my Steve Howard collection.Clyde's Stale Cards - A blog about the international world of baseball cards.
