I know he hasn't hit for a high average recently, but he's been a pretty exciting player. He's never been much of a power hitter, but in the last month he's slugging .528 with 12 doubles and five home runs, to go along with 23 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. Really, he's been doing it all and I think he's a big reason the team has been winning so much. What do you think about Crisp? Has he lived up to the contract he signed with the As so far?

I was never on board with the Crisp signing, mainly because he's always injured... Needless to say, Beane has surprised me yet again with this deal. I thought for sure it was money going down the drain, but when he's healthy, dude is a sparkplug. The Cespedes signing was also huge, to say the least. Let's just hope these guys don't run out of gas down the stretch.WAR? Prove it!

I would have rather seen Josh Willingham resigned than Coco Crisp. It seems the A's have a team tradition of having a fast running base stealer lead off and want to continue in this mode. Coco Crisp is at best a shadow of Ricky Henderson at his best! Before Henderson there was Bert Campaneris and back with the Philadelphia A's there was hustling base stealing hall of famer Enos Slaughter! The tradition goes on!Last edited by anna; 09-23-2012, 05:05 PM.

Enos Slaughter played in KansasCity but I wouldn't think he was a base stealing threat like the others you mentioned."(Shoeless Joe Jackson's fall from grace is one of the real tragedies of baseball. I always thought he was more sinned against than sinning." -- Connie Mack
"I have the ultimate respect for Whitesox fans. They were as miserable as the Cubs and Redsox fans ever were but always had the good decency to keep it to themselves. And when they finally won the World Series, they celebrated without annoying every other fan in the country."--Jim Caple, ESPN (Jan. 12, 2011)

I was bummed when the Cubs traded him..."If I drink whiskey, I'll never get worms!" - Hack Wilson

Former A's owner Charles O'Finley even hired Herb Washington to be the designated pinch runner. Washington didn't know anything about baseball and often got picked off or didn't get good jumps while stealing.
