  • What does "Sodo Mojo" mean?

I know about Mojo being black magic, having your best day, etc. What does "Sodo" mean?

Me thinks one certain Mod here's being getting lots of mileage out of this, but I won't say who.

It means "South of the Dome Magic." Safeco field is just south of where the Kingdome used to be. Some people will also tell you it means "Downtown Magic" which is pretty much it.
    WAR? Prove it!

Zito's right, it means "South of the Dome Magic" or "South Downtown Magic". As for this Mod getting lots of mileage out of it, what's his name, I'd like to meet him .

I think it's time for a new motto. It doesn't have any significance anymore. Anyone have any suggestions?

He's the dude who pops up whenever you shave. I think he looks a little better after the razor's done its job.

BTW, how long's this motto been around? Is it used frequently at the Safe, on t-shirts, local news articles, etc?

I think they have been using that for around 4 years or so. My guess. It's been on all the local TV commercials.

Other mottos are or have been:

            "You gotta love these guys."
            "Refuse to lose."
            ~and~
"We'll always just be mediocre." (I made that last one up!)

4 years? I guess TFAM got tired of my having mentioned Starbucks and Paul Allen, huh?

I could see a certain "Sodo Mojo" mod wearing that last suggestion if he'd lost a bet. In fact, I could envision it grandly right now!

How about this one?: "THANK GOD WE'RE NOT OAKLAND!" Or how about "They lost Miggy, we still got Shiggy"?

Good one, TFAM. I like that last one.

                      What does SODO mean?

                      What does that SODO mean?

                      Very Simply...SOuth of DOwntown

The district was named after the landfill project.

Did you know the Puget Sound shoreline used to run all the way

up to the Old Rainer Brewry where Emil Sick (Sick Stadium) would

load the beer on ships directly. The land is an unstable aquifier and will turn

to "slip" while the buildings drop into Atlantis. Can't Wait.

BTW: I am a NASCAR FAN. Who are these mariners?

IMHO you are partially correct. It started when Safeco Field started. Meaning south of downtown. It was originally tide flats. When they did the denny regrade 100 years ago, this area was filled in. I've lived in Seattle all my life, and I have always heard the term "Industrial Area." used for this area, but this doesn't sound very good, so some slick ad guy came up with sodo and sodo mojo. everyone picked it up and ran with it and now it's the sodo district. Pioneer Square used to be called the tenderloin area.

Have you heard the term "sojo mojo ?" It came from famous mariner, "luis sojo" and his famous double against the Angels in that one game playoff, back in 95 :applaud:

I honestly don't hear it much anymore. It may pop up in print here and there (bumper stickers, t-shirts) but as for radio and TV commercials, I rarely (if ever) hear "Sodo Mojo".

The tagline now is "Mariners Baseball: My, Oh, My."
Swing and a drive! This one is deep! This one is... over the fence and into the neighbor's yard!
