  • Angels' injury news good for the Mariners

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...14_mari16.html.

I think this will help a lot (of course, we need to avoid any major injuries ourselves...). I understand the players and MacLaren want to be tactful, and not appear too happy that someone got injured, but I have no such inhibitions - I think this is great! :gt

We play 6 games against them before either of their guys are scheduled to get back.

How much do you guys think this helps our odds this year?

      bumps and bruises

It could help, but I rather beat them at full strength. They will be tough regardless.

        No the won't.

Escobar's injury could keep him out for the entire year or when he gets back he could be ineffective. it's happened to him before.

Lackey's injury has the ability to make him lose a bit of his break when he returns also.

The Angels are a team built aroud their two ace starters, K-Rod (whose arm should be falling off any second now with those ugly mechanics) and Vlad and 21 other mediocre players filling roles. Losing 2 of their 4 franchise players does more than merely make them a little less tough...it could end their season.

That's why they play the game. Sure, some of those guys had big years in 2007 and one wonders if they can do it again at the plate. Sarge Jr pounded Seattle and Vlad, as you know, we can't get out. It's a long season and to say Seattle will run away with this thing is a joke. The Angels are too good a club to just lay down. They still have a great team. Remember we still have big Richie who hit .200 in 2007 as well as question marks in RF and in the bull pen. I've been around baseball too long to think the Angels are done. They are a proud bunch. A veteran Manager. Again, I would like to beat them when they are at full strength.

If memory serves me correctly, the Angels not only won often against the Mariners in 2007, they knocked the stuffing right out of the M's. The M's know they can't beat the Angels and get Vlad out, and the Angels know this also. The M's must overcome this. They showed themselves last year that they can beat Oakland. They must show themselves this year that they can beat the Angels.

I wasn't saying the season WAS over for the Angels...I was saying losing Lackey and Escobar is more than just a minor booboo...it's a big huge roundhouse kick to the balls. They can still win, but the Mariners have to be considered the favorites at this point.

--Best case (for them) it costs the Angels a couple wins - which could be the difference this year. Worst case one or both misses a big chunk of the season and/or doesn't pitch at full effectiveness for a big chunk of the season. The Angels have enough pitching depth they could survive one of these guys being out of action, but nobody can lose their best 2 starters without doing some serious damage to their pennant hopes. I rather beat them on the field and never wish serious injury on anyone, but I'll take whatever breaks come our way.

Operative word there was COULD. It COULD end their season. Try reading...it's a neat skill to have.

It will end their season if they both come back ineffective or if both of their injuries are bad enough to prevent them from pitching.

I might say the same to you. You twisted my words...anyway, I thought you were done with the M's, bavasi, Hargrove, Mac...you were flying the Mets flag for quite a while...no need to back track...don't yell at me...it's not polite...be nice...

Since you believe that the M's are now prohibitive favorites to win the West, how many games will you give me if I take the Angels ?

I never said "prohibitive"...they have the EDGE right now.

What do you mean by "how many games"

reading comprehension is a great skill to have. Typing in capitals is so annoying. You say the M's will win the West now. If I take the Angels, how many games will you give me ? It's a proposition. You take the M's, I'll take the Angels.

How many games will you give me could me multiple different things.

It could mean what "split" am I giving (I have the Ms by three in the west...is they lose the west or win by less than three we'll call that a victory for you)

It could mean I'm betting tickets to the games (in which case, I'm too poor as a new grad student to afford that bet)

It could mean you want a win count for each team (Ms 94, Angels 91).

                            So which is it?

I don't know what I was thinking. I could never root against me beloved M's.
