There's no nice way to say this, so I'll just come out with it: Eric O'Flaherty is terrible. Here's his statline from his "work" for the Mariners this season (I can't believe he's getting paid for this):
March 31: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER
April 1: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER
April 5: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER
April 6: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER
April 7: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER (L)
April 10: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 3 ER
April 13: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 6 ER
Overall: (0-1), 20.25 ERA, 4 K, 4 W, tons of heartbreak
Since Putz went down, and Sherrill was traded, O'Flaherty has been given (and subsequently been removed from) the late innings role. Eddie Guardado would be better than this guy. Right handed hitters are batting .421 against him, but lefties (keep in mind, O'Flaherty throws left handed — maybe he should try throwing right handed though) hit a ridiculous .500 against him. Remember the days when the starting pitching was terrible, but at least we could count on Sherrill to come in and shut down the lefties? Those days are gone. O'Flaherty is terrible.
