This is amusing to me, as well. I recently vacationed in Las Vegas with a great friend who is a huge Mariner fan and he was poking fun at me as an A's fan because Rich Harden went on the DL YET AGAIN last week. This is cosmic justice. Mariner fans, you obviously have my friend to blame for this turn of events. He laughed at Harden and said the A's will suck this year and now Bedard goes down, in response.

Ha ha... Poetic justice. I have a hunch it won't be Bedard's only trip to the DL this year. As for Harden, the A's will finally get smart and make him a closer.

Bedard's trip to the DL (as SABR Matt pointed out, only nine days), is more precautionary than anything else. It would be a mistake to dish out all those players only to force your ace onto the mound to the point where something serious happens. Harden, on the other hand, always has something wrong with him. He's not Mike Hampton, but he's getting there. Maybe the A's will make him a closer, but I'm sure Beane wouldn't be too happy about that as he acquired approximately 14 closers already.
