This really does suck.
The article says they'd put Bloomquist/Morse out there in center. I don't actually like that idea, but like it or not, someone has to take over. I would personally see if I could get Ichiro to move to center as he can cover more ground. We need Bloomquist for other purposes, and Morse is new to the outfield, and throwing him out in Center field may not the best idea, maybe in right, but I'd prefer him in left if anything.
Did I say that this sucks? Well it does!

Well if it makes you guys feel any better, we (The A's) lost our best prospect Javier Herrera for the season due to Tommy John surgery. And he's not even a pitcher. Pretty tough for a 20 year old kid to swallow.h
WAR? Prove it!

--If Morse gets much time in CF its going to be brutal. The M's flyball staff can't afford that kind of OJT. Bloomquist isn't really suitable for everyday play in CF (or anywhere else) either. Ichrio sliding over to CF and Lawton/Morse manning a corner would be the best solution with in house talent, but it probably won't happen.

They said during the game that the team is already fielding calls about prospective players to take over - haven't heard any names yet though. The team is saying they will look in house first, but if they don't find what they are looking for, they will have to go elsewhere.
Hopefully, Reed will get back on track once he gets back. He was hitting pretty well this spring, with a .316 BA.

I'd rather see Bloomquist stay as a Utility player. He has the talent to play anywhere. I'm not sure about Morse either. He doesn't have that much experience. What about Carl Everett? He's been around awhile. Do you think he has the speed to play out there? I mean, he does have 13+ years in, and he only played 20 some games in the field last season with the White Sox. Or what about Matt Lawton? He had 130+ games last year in the field. Move Ichiro to center and throw one of these two to right. The experience is there instead of throwing Morse to the outfield.*

Reed
With the injury to Reed, Bloomquist and Lawton are one and two on the depth chart in Center.
Bloomquist has the speed to cover ground out there. I hope he gets off to a good start at the plate.
I know there trying to find ways to get Morse in the lineup, because of his bat and this might be the right time. Trial by fire in Center for Morse ? He can't do any worse than Wynn.
They found the reason for the suicide - dude listening to Ron Fairley broadcast a game.

Ron Fairly would never cause me to hang myself...Bloomquist starting in CF...that will.
The CORRECT answer is to force Ichiro to move to CF, play Lawton/Everett in right, Everett/Ibanez in left and Ibanez/PETAGINE as the DH
But this management is too retarded to do that.

He hit (.263) with triple A Charlotte last year in 494 at bats, with 29 HR's and 67 RBI's. He had 143 SO's.WAR? Prove it!

Slick Willie

If this happens, the pitchers won't know what to do with themselves. Pitching with a lack of run support has got to wear on a pitcher - Feeling that every pitch has to be perfect.

I do think that borderline guys like Pineiro and Meche will improve this year if they get some leads. In fact the book on Meche at one point last year was that he was great with a lead, and horrid when tied or behind...and I don't think Ryan Frnaklin would have imploded had he had some leads to work with...
Personally...as long as Beltre is back to form and we can find some offense from Lawton, Everett, Ibanez, and Johjhima that we didn't find from their positions last year...I think the hitting will be competitive.

And now the report is that Reed is NOT out for six weeks as his wrist is NOT broken. They found a hairline facture that'd been there since he was seven and had healed incompletely. His latest hand injury did not exascerbate the old break and the hand is just "sore" and a little swollen (he probably pulled on the logaments or tendens in there a little or got a really deep bone bruise)...he should be ready no later than when Lawton gets off his suspension.
