    Gulp

If he's out with arm trouble, we will need to revise those predictions of .500

Nah, just do what you always do -- preach glory and hallelujah for next year as your team has short spurts of success behind Shields.

It's good for me to read comments from NY and Boston fans. It helps me to understand why Gator fans are sometimes disliked by our lessers.

God, please help me to be less smug. Thanks and amen.

          Don't forget Garza.

Last season's Ray team wasn't terrible. They were pretty good offensively...just that nagging trouble developing pitchers.
"After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio

Garza should have a strong second half but he's vey green, just like a lot of other Tampa Bay stars. I'm certainly not ruling out a 1967 type season for them but I think that's what it'd take right now. That said they're definitely getting stronger every year for the last few and as long as that trend continues an eventual breakthrough will happen.

Every year I predict that the Devil rays will NOT finish in the cellar - this is the year! Take down Baltimore!

Update: Kazmir has begun throwing off a mound again, and hopes to throw in a game next week. He is resigned to the fact he will not start Opening Day, but it's better he be healthy for the long haul than rush to get back for the first one. Shields will do just fine in his place.
