  • Break up the Rays!

4-0, a franchise record start in spring training The camp optimism has overflowed into the start of the exhibition games. We are getting hits when they are needed, and even though the pitching has been suspect at times, we are finding a way to win. And like Maddon said, they are doing all the little things well, and not making mental mistakes. We had no errors in the field thru Sunday, stealing a lot of bases, taking the extra base when it's there. So far so good, let's hope it continues once it starts for real.

Just like I said in the Yankee board: The majority of games are played against minor leaguers. What will happen if your pitchers and batters face full MLB squads?

But sure, it gives some hope.

So what, maybe we are playing our minor leaguers too. You make it sound like we are playing our 25 man roster against guys that will be driving a beer truck in 3 weeks.

A lot of killjoys like to come in this forum, huh? Imgran's comment in the Kazmir thread was unwarranted as well.

Good luck this year. The team is looking good.

Thanks for the well wishes. We've been baseball's doormat for so long, it will take more than a 4-0 spring training to erase the stains of the previous regime and earn some respect around MLB. But it's a start

All I mean to say is that the quality of the rosters will be better than those teams that are playing during ST. Same case with the Yankees and any other team.

Is it just me, or is Price only relying on his fastball and a slider?

Looks good so far, but his arm won't last long in this way.

I haven't seem him pitch yet live or on TV, but I heard he struck out the side today against the Yanks after hitting a batter. Not a bad professional debut I must say

Last years: Evan Longoria, Reid Brignac, Fernando Perez and Chris Mason.

                      This year? Don't know yet.

I was wondering where David Price will start the season. I think it will be wise to send him to Columbus.

I don't know which pitches he masters, but if he only has a fast ball and a slider (that were the pitches I saw yesterday), he has to learn a lot. So single A would be fine IMO.

From an article at draft time:

"He has two plus pitches, and we believe that the changeup is not far behind. It's just a matter of, he hasn't used [the changeup] an awful lot at the college level. He commands his fastball well, he competes, his character is unquestioned by those people that have been around him. He's a good top prospect."

The Rays grew enamored of Price after seeing him pitch in each of his starts this season and while scouting him when he pitched for Team USA last summer.

"He's got a knockout pitch with his breaking ball," Harrison said. "When he's at his best, he's like any top pitcher; his fastball command is well above average."
Price is headed to AA, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him in Durham by mid-summer with perhaps even a Sept. call-up. I saw him pitch last year for Vandy - he's damn good.

That is a short time span you are talking about. They better not rush him.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if Longoria keeps hitting like he does these days, he will be on the 25 man roster when the season begins.

I did not expect his star to rise this fast.
