  • Devil Rays prediction

I think that the devil rays are gonna do awesome next year!!! I really am high on them to do good for once. I see a second third place finish and potiental wild card contenders. With a new manager and young players the D rays look toward a bright future that with a couple winning seasons will take off. I mean cmon they gotta be good some time right??

haha I already have a new hat!!!

    edit

forget second third lets try first!! I know i sound crazy but if yankees pitchin falls through they may have a chance! ill send everyone back here when they dont believe i predicted it

I think they will surprise everyone; Scott Kazmire, Seth McClung, and Edwin Jackson will break out. Will Casey Fossum every be that pitcher the BoSox once considered untradableand the Diaondbacks thought was worth trading Kirt Schilling for? The defense must improve to help the pitching. If Aubrey Huff or Sean Buroughs play 3B effectively and fill that spot in the order, this lineup looks 2nd only to the Yankees in the AL.

In the 1920's, Harry Heilmann led the AL with a .364 average. In addition, he averaged 220 hits, 45 doubles, 12 triples, 16 homers, 110 runs, and 130 RBI.

            Hah

It's spring. Everyone thinks they have a chance. Unfortunately, with our payroll versus the Sox and Yanks, we have no chance. Not unless the Yanks and Sox pitching staffs all get old over night and break down completely. Next year, improvement, this year, try and stay out of last place again :gt

That may not be so easy looking at the rest of the division....

                    Not this year

With the Rays less than mediocre rotation of Kazmir, McClung, Fossum, Hendrickson and Jackson/Waechter, and bullpen with no defined roles, it won't matter how many bases Crawford steals, or HRs Gomes and Huff hit. We might lose 11-10 every night with this staff. Ownership has sat back again and wrote off this year without making enough moves. Free parking and allowing fans to bring their own food into the stadium is nice, but wins are nicer. After Opening Night, crowds will resume their normal 8-10000 per night unless this team shows some improvement and direction.

Wait until next year once again :gt

                        Not much

They've pretty much said that they don't expect to spend money until 2007, that this is a year of evaluation, a feeling out process. They said they could have come in and made a big splash, spending tons of money in FA (overpaying) but they are looking at the long term big picture, and are willing to wait for the young players to develop. Sounds too much like what Lamar and Naimoli said for the last 8 years for my tastes.

By the way, here is the final 25 man roster as of today:

Pitchers (12) - RH Shawn Camp, RH Jason Childers, RH Jesus Colome, LH Casey Fossum, RH Travis Harper, LH Mark Hendrickson, LH Scott Kazmir, RH Ruddy Lugo, RH Seth McClung, RH Brian Meadows, RH Dan Miceli, RH Doug Waechter
Catchers (2) - Toby Hall, Josh Paul
Infielders (7) - Jorge Cantu, Nick Green, Aubrey Huff, Travis Lee, Julio Lugo, Luis Ordaz, Ty Wigginton
Outfielders (4) - Carl Crawford, Joey Gathright, Jonny Gomes, Damon Hollins
Disabled List (3)- RH Shinji Mori, Sean Burroughs, Rocco Baldelli

Once Rocco is back, expect Hollins to be sent down, and when Branyon or Norton or Burroughs get healthy, we don't need 2 backup IFs in Ordaz/Green, so expect one of them to get the ax too. RP Ruddy Lugo is Julio's brother BTW. No lefties in the bullpen either h
