When do the Rays project him making his big league debut, September or earlier?

  • #2
The Rays are very protective of their young pitching talent so it wouldn't
surprise me if we don't see Price at all this year. The team will take their
    time with him.

But if they hang in there all season in a pennant chase, and Price moves up the ladder of the system, he might be a September call up IMO. Say he goes to AA Montgomery in 2 weeks, if he tears it up, maybe he gets moved to AAA Durham by the end of July. 5 starts in August there, and who knows? David Price as a 5th starter instead of an inconsistent E-Jax might become a reality.

I dunno; I'd rather keep him in the minors this year unless the team really needs an extra arm. Let him compete for a job next spring.

It will be tempting come September if the Rays remain in the race and I suspect they will to call up Price.

September is a long way off. A lot can happen. Right now I'm more
concerned with the up coming road trip. The team isn't hitting right
now and the bats will be needed on the road.

Peter Gammons said on Baseball Tonight last night he expects Price to be up in September FWIW...

I think in order to keep Price happy, they will call him up in September. How much they use him is another story.

He should stay in the minors atleast for a full year... then next year compete for the spot. Don't rush a young good arm!!

But think about it, no major league batter has faced Price before making a September callup tempting.

I really look forward to the days when Jackson and Sonnonstein are no longer starters. The Rays would have a bunch more wins if it weren't for these two. When they are no longer starters, the Rays will win the AL East, but not until then.

While I share your frustration at their inconsistently, those guys are serviceable 4 and 5 starters. Not everybody is gonna have a staff like the early-70s Orioles.

Andy Sonnenstine won his 8th game tonight. What is wrong with that? Jackson has been inconsistent, but Sonnenstine has been more then adequate.

                              Sure.

Hey, if Price develops like he's supposed to and Garza takes a couple proxac (c) before each start, the front 4 will be devastatingly good in '09, '10, and possibly beyond. And with all those young'uns in the minors, somebody's gonna be better than Sonny/E-Jax by then as well, right???
