  • Should Kazmir be the Opening Day Starter?

The way the starting rotation is setting up, it looks like Scott Kazmir will get the start opening day. The opening day starter is usually the pitcher the team considers its number one starter. While Kazmir has the potential, I don't think he can be considered the number one pitcher yet. Based on past history, Hendrickson or Fossum should get the start. If you go by spring training so far, Jackson or McLung should get the start. I still remember what happened to Dewon Brazleton last year, and Kazmir hasn't been that effective so far this spring.

    By default

If you go back thru our short history, all of our Opening Day pitchers have suffered a terrible fate. Brazelton, Kennedy, Alvarez, Albie Lopez, Arrojo, Sturtze...the list goes on and on. None of them had success after they left us, and I've seen talk before that Opening Day starting pitcher is a jinx for us. Hendrickson hasn't had enough innings this spring. Kazmir is the best of the lot and will probably get the assignment. I just hope the jinx doesn't follow him the rest of the year, and his career..

Kazmir is without a doubt the best pitcher on your staff. He has great potential and should be treated like the ace because he is. All he is missing is some more experienced pitchers around him to teach him and help him along. That would be a big help. If he was able to play a season with someone like Greg Maddux and learn from him, Kazmir could be pretty scary.

Kazmir should be your only starter... unfortunately the days of John Clarkson and Company are over.
The Q: Can the Cubs hold a 6-5 lead with 2 outs and nobody on in the 9th?

        The A: No

        ***********My Rant on Bud Selig***********
Selig is like a stray pigeon. Pigeons are too self-absorbed to care about anyone else. They poo on people they don't like; they poo on people they don't even know. The only real difference between Selig and a pigeon is that Selig intends to bury our heritage, our traditions, and our culture,

Well its been made official, Kazmir will be the opening day starter. I can't get memories of Joe Kennedy out of my head, right now thats who Kazmir reminds me of. I hope he proves me wrong.

Kazmir has not had a good spring. His last few outings have been downright ugly. Yesterday in 41/3 innings 7 runs (4 earned) on 11 hits. Not a good way to get ready for opening day.

I think Kazmir should get the opening day start even with his shaky spring, honestly the D-Rays don't have much else to go with.

Kazmir throws such good heat, but just can't control it well enough to use it nearly as effectively as he could. I think the guy would benefit from a Nolan Ryan or Roger Clemens-type instruction.

Where's Crash Davis when you need him?

Btw, Does anyone know what pitches Kazmir throws?

Just think D-Rays fans, if Kazmir turns out to be the stud I think he will become, remember all you had to give to get him was Victor Zambrano, I think that was the only player, or significant player, correct?

Out of all the terrible trades that Chuck Lamar made, this was his best, and it also got the Mets GM fired as well and replaced by Minaya...
