  • Groundhog Day!

    :grouchy :grouchy

The more things change, the more they stay the same :grouchy

Terrible starting pitching + horrible relief pitching = Another disasterous Devil Rays season :grouchy

Stop the madness!! Spend some :grouchy money if you expect to compete and resemble a major league baseball team!!

The pitching is rough, but you can take solice in the fact that there is some terrific young talent on the "Rays", and it looks like they play hard. I respect them a lot more with Sweet Lou gone. He was a bag of hot air.

      True

However, we will have to trade some of that young talent for major league ready pitchers if we expect to go anywhere. Florida traded Juan Pierre for Mitre and Wellmeyer. Those are the kind of trades we need to pull off for Lugo or Huff. Pitchers on the cusp of the big leagues looking for their big break. Holding on to Huff and Lugo, and keeping Upton and Young down again at AAA, holds the team back and just gets under the skin of those younger players who want to be up here now.

Other then Hendrickson, the pitching has been bad. This team will hit and score runs. Being 2-2 without any pitching so far isn't to bad. This is a scrappy team, You can't give up on them 4 games into the season.

You can't expect things to turn around right away.

It's a rebuilding year for them. Even if they are not rebuilding on the surface, they are rebuilding from the inside out. They will get someone to anchor the team and build off of him. Just watch.

            Jason Hammell

I agree with everything said re the Rays pitching. or lack of it. I do think that in a month if the starters haven't shown some signs of life I'd bring up Jason Hammel from Durham. He is 24 years old and appears to have command. His k to walk ratio last year was 4 to 1 with an era of about 2.50 for two class A teams. This year in his first start at Durham he threw 5 shutout innings with 7 K's and 0 walks. Why not let him learn on the job? There is such a thing as over protecting the youngsters.

              Welcome Jason

Hammel certainly learned on the job tonight.

More injuries. Hendrickson goes on the 15 day DL after pitching a shutout last week. Tonight Huff gets his knee rolled into on a foul popup. It looked bad, but he walked off under his own power.

We need to get healthy, and fast. These guys are going down like flies. Our IF now is Branyon/Wigginton at 3B, Nick Green at SS, Tomas Perez at 2B
Lugo, Huff, Cantu out of the lineup. ugh.

It's hard to keep the faith with some of the moves the team makes(or doesn't make)...As for a leader, you got a point..However there are several candidtaes on the team..Let's see whom(if anybody) steps up...Personally, I
believe that when you build from the inside, that's management's way of saying "We ain't spending"...

Isn't quite the lineup we imagined.. We all knew pitching was going to be a BIG problem....
