R.A. Dickey hopes that a newly-learned sinker will help him in 2005, the Dallas Morning News reports. Ryan Drese's success in 2004 is largely attributed to a new sinker, but Dickey doesn't figure to have much value in a long relief role with Texas.

R.A. Dickey's latest new pitch
I just read on si.com today that Dickey is now a knuckleballer, courtesy of Charlie Hough, and that he is supposed to be the #5 starter. Who can tell us more, please?
I looked and saw that this guy was the club's first-round pick in 1996. I had honestly *never* heard of him before today, even though he's pitched in several major-league seasons. Gotta give him credit for hanging in there.Last edited by VIBaseball; 03-31-2006, 06:29 PM.

Originally posted by VIBaseballGood ol' R.A. served up a record-tying six homers to Detroit tonight. If the knuckler is rolling, that will happen. Wakefield did it once in '04, and Charlie Hough once served up five as a Ranger.
And for his "effort" he gets sent down after 1 start!
Rangers demote Dickey"There are three things in my life which I really love: God, my family, and baseball. The only problem - once baseball season starts, I change the order around a bit.

Dickey's new pitch reminded me of Vaughn from 'Major League'.
When Vaughn said...."If you hit it you could rename it!" Hahaha"After my fourth season I asked for $43,000 and General Manager Ed Barrow told me, 'Young man, do you realize Lou Gehrig, a 16-year-man, is playing for only $44,000?' I said, Mr. Barrow, there is only one answer to that - Mr. Gehrig is terribly underpaid."- Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio
