  • Texas Rangers Photo Thread

I just went through the threads here in the Rangers section and saw that there wasn't a photo thread. I would like to get one started to post all the pictures we can find of those great Rangers players over the years! I may be a Cardinal fan, but I have lived in Central Texas for 7 years now and have been following this team closely. They are my "hometown team!"

So, fellow Rangers fans, lets get some pictures posted to show off all our favorite players, teams, stadium shots, and great game moments in Rangers history! It's a rich history so lets show it off!

Disclaimer: I am new to this posting pictures in messages thing, so I apologize if I don't get some truly great ones to start it off!

Nolan Ryan. Who else to get this started? Ryan was 324-292, 3.19 ERA, 7 no hitters, 5714 Ks, 61 SHO, and a 1.247 WHIP (51-39, 3.43 ERA, 2 no hitters, 1.126 WHIP, 6.4 H/9, and 10.1 K/9 in his 5 years with the Rangers). That's great work from a guy who was 42-46 years of age while pitching in the Texas heat!

      Charlie Hough, Ace Knuckleballer

He pitched for Texas from part of the 1980 season to the end of the 1990 campaign. He won 10 or more for 9 straight years for the Rangers (139-123 for Texas) and was an All Star in 1986 (17-10, 3.79 ERA, 1.203 WHIP).

Jeff Burroughs was the 1974 AL MVP and had his only AL All Star appearance as a Ranger that year (.301/.397/.504, 25 HR, 118 RBI, 162 OPS+).

          Ivan Rodriguez

Pudge is simply one of the greatest catchers in baseball history, period. He was great both behind and at the plate collecting 13 Gold Gloves and 7 Silver Sluggers in his career (10 GG and 6 SS with Rangers). AL MVP in 1999 (.332/.356/.558, 35 HR, 113 RBI, 199 hits, and 25 SB as a catcher), for the Rangers he collected 1747 hits, 352 2B, 217 HR, 842 RBI, and had a .304/.381/.488 slash line.

Ferguson Jenkins was 25-12, 2.82 ERA, 29 CG, 328.1 IP with a 1.003 WHIP with the Rangers in 1974. He went 93-72 with a 3.56 ERA in 1410.1 IP with the Rangers (1974-1975, 1978-1981), and had 90 CG, 17 SHO and a 1.173 WHIP.

                  Kenny Rogers, The Gambler

I was hoping to get a shot of his perfect game, and I think that is it with Pudge and Clark.

Some late '80s and early '90s shots: Juan Gonzalez, Julio Franco, Raphael Palmeiro, and Ruben Sierra; Oddibe McDowell and Sierra; and McDowell with Steve Buechele.

                      Sierra and Downing

Here are a couple pictures of Ruben Sierra and one of Brian Downing. I couldn't find too many pics of Downing with the Rangers, just some baseball card pictures. He was my favorite Ranger when he played those couple years here in '91-'92. I thought it was great that he was a 40 year old DH and leadoff hitter! He had a .407 OBP as a 41 year old DH in his final season (1992, 107 G, 391 PA)!

Kevin Brown and Steve Buechele. Too bad we couldn't keep Brown around for his best years, but he was excellent in 1992 going 21-11 with a 3.32 ERA, 11 CG, 173 K in 265.2 IP, 1.272 WHIP. Buechele had some decent pop, but I remember his glove more. Some other "more experienced" in life Rangers fans can elaborate, I am sure. I was a little young when Steve was scooping up shots at the hot corner.

                          Pete O'Brien 1B 1982-1988

O'Brien was a fine 1B in the 1980s for the Rangers, and had some decent power hitting over 20 HRs 3 straight years (1985-87). He is another one that I had a hard time locating decent pictures of. Hopefully there is another O'Brien fan out there that can post some good images!

                            Great thread!

                            Why did O'Brien fizzle?

                            Be cool to see Inky.

Michael Young is my favorite Ranger.
