  • Ray Hutchison and Jim Fregosi, former Rangers figures, pass away

Ray Hutchison was integral in bringing the Rangers to Texas.

Ray Hutchison, a lawyer instrumental in the development of DART, D/FW Airport and every stadium built in North Texas in the past four decades, died Sunday night at UT Southwestern. He was 81 and had suffered from a heart problem.

The husband of former U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, he and the retired lawmaker are senior counselors at the Dallas law firm Bracewell & Giuliani.

In his role as a municipal bond lawyer, Hutchison led negotiations to bring the Washington Senators to Arlington and helped get the ballpark built. He also had a hand in the public financing of Reunion Arena, American Airlines Center, Cowboys Stadium and Texas Motor Speedway, The Texas Lawbook reported in 2012.
