  • Shannon Stewart's back!!!

According to the Jays site. Shannon has signed a minor league contract, he is a non-roster invitee and I actually think if he makes the club he will make the clubhouse alot more comfertible, he's been here before and I just love this.

Left field is (should be) open for the taking. If Shannon hits like he can I doubt Johnson stands in his way although ideally you'd want a bigger bat than either one of them has.

If Johnson hits like he can, it'll be close. Johnson has a much better arm than Stewart, and I read that Stewart has plantar fasciitis in both feet. From 2004-2006, he only played 268 games. We might have another Troy Glaus on our hands.

I think Stewart is a great pick up, good contact hitter, even though it hasnt been utilzed lately he has some good speed, should be great a roving OFer and great off the bench

Good pickup. He's had alot of lower-body injuries recently, but who knows. Maybe he can put up some good numbers off the bench for the Jays. He's a speedier, better-defence Matt Stairs, at least when it comes to playing the OF.

I can't see him starting over Reed Johnson. I think he's a good pick up as a bench player. I was always a fan of his during his first stint with the team, and am happy to see him back. Now if they could only get Shawn Green again, my life would be complete.

Hope he has some success for your club if you feel he can help them this year.

As long as he doesn't have to much against the Yankees this year.

Well actually I can see him doing terrible, not getting into many games and half way through the season, getting released like alot of other people who seem like good pickups like Ohka.

I'm not sure about Shannon. Plantar Fascitis is a hard injury to rehab, especially when you count on speed as one of your key tools.

I love Stairs, and think Johnson will have a better chance to recover and be a asset then Stewart.

shannon still swings a very good bat but he is below-average defensivly and i don't know if he hits that much better to make up for the difference between his and reed's defense.

however, i think whoever loses this competition wil get traded or released. i can't see us keeping 3 leftfiedlers on the roster, espically if scutaro is being utilized a bit out there this season.

My favorite Shannon Stewart moment was then he was hit by Hidecki Irabu took a stap towards the mound and was bear hugged from the back by Jorge Posada who was trying to defuse the tension. Irabu then charged leading to a bench clearing brawl. Stewart was heckled the next inning by the Yankee fans in left field (where I was sitting) and then proceeded to hit the game winning home run two innings later.
