  • Jays re-aquire Zach Jackson

    http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=305370
The Toronto Blue Jays continued to build up their pitching depth Saturday by re-acquiring left-hander Zach Jackson from the Cleveland Indians for a player to be named.

Jackson was chosen in the first round of the 2004 draft by the Blue Jays, who dealt him in the fall of 2005 to the Milwaukee Brewers as part of a package for first baseman Lyle Overbay.

The 26-year-old was later one of four players acquired by Cleveland in the 2008 trade that sent ace CC Sabathia to Milwaukee.
Interesting move, Maybe a move to solidify our bullpen moving forward adding a possible lefty specialist?

I'm not sure whether he's a bullpen type guy. He generally walks quite a few batters and that's really something you want to avoid with guys out of the pen. I think he's probably here to try and eat some innings for us and hopefully he won't continue to have such a high ERA.

That is true, however he doesnt have alot of Stamina either, so im not sure if thats a good combination lol.

Maybe Anthopolous or his scouts see's something he hasn't shown yet

I don't like Jackson at all. One of J.P.'s worst 1st round selections.

Perhaps we are going to deal Scott Downs away soon?

I wouldn't worry about it, Jackson likely doesnt have much value so as far as we know it could be that kid we picked off waiver's this week at the request of Cleveland.

Anthopolous thus far hasnt traded anyone with potential away, I have faith in him making these kinds of moves.

Wouldn't surprise me. I know I've seen on a few sites that the Cubbies have been looking at Frasor.

It was too bad Downs got injured last year because he would have made for excellent trade fodder. Could have gotten a high end A prospect for him similar to Zach Steward possibly. Or course, perhaps because it would have made so much sense, Riccardi would have passed.

Hopefully AA has the presence of mind to trade Frasor at the deadline if he's producing, because I doubt Frasor will pitch well as he gets older. He fastball is too straight and if the slider gets a little flat or he starts losing velocity hes going to get hit hard, much like he has in the past. Hopefully Frasor can pitch well like he did last season which will give us a chance to deal him at high value.

We could go the Johnny Mac way and basically trade him for himself :P

Since Downs is slated to be a Type A free agent when he leaves next year, I think it's more likely we'll keep him, offer him arbitration, and collect 2 picks for him. I don't see many teams that would trade the equivalent of a 1st round pick + sandwich round pick for Downs.

He's in the same boat as Downs...kinda. He's slated to be a Type B free agent (and if he closes this year, he might sneak into Type A status), so we'd have to get another high-end pick for him which seems a little unlikely. Who knows though, the Cubbies seem to value crappy closers over Marmol, so they might jump all over Frasor and stick him in there.
