DUNEDIN, Fla. -- The Blue Jays signed catcher Jose Molina to a one-year contract on Friday afternoon, filling the backup catcher role. The deal is worth $400,000 with incentives for the 2010 season and includes a club option worth $1.2 million for 2011.

Molina, 34, appeared in 55 games with the Yankees last season, hitting .217 with one home run and 11 RBIs. He becomes the clear favorite to serve as the primary backup to Blue Jays catcher John Buck, who was also signed to a one-year deal over the offseason. Toronto also brought veteran catcher Raul Chavez to camp on a Minor League deal.
