  • Jays trade Brett Wallace

3:41pm: Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Blue Jays will send Brett Wallace to Houston for Gose.

2:58pm: The Astros will flip newly-acquired prospect Anthony Gose to the Blue Jays, reports ESPN's Jayson Stark. The speedy, defensively-talented center fielder went to Houston as part of the Roy Oswalt deal.
Not sure what to think. I'm hearing that Gose had speed for days, but his numbers in the minors don't look especially good and he's pretty far away from the majors (and Brett Wallace would've probably been ready next year).

Wallace was the plan at 1B to take over for Overbay when he leaves. What do you guys think happens now? Adam Lind (who hasn't really been all that great on the field, or had much time at 1B), Jose Bautista, bring in a UFA to fill the void next year, or will AA get a 1B by the end of the season?

Wow what is this his 4th franchise?
Rest in Peace Jose Fernandez (1992-2016)

Apparently we tried to get him in the Halladay deal but Philly wouldnt budge, that means both the Jays and Phillies view Gose higher then both Taylor and D'Arnoud.

What bothers me a little is that Wallace was ready for the big leagues in 2011 (if not now) and Gose won't be ready until 2013. I know Alex Anthopoulos is building for the future, but how far into the future?

I don't know if I like this trade. It seems like the only good thing I hear about this Gose is his stolen bases. Wallace was being hyped up so much about his power and power isn't cheap these days either. Speedy outfielders can be found anywhere...

It looks like Houston is going to give Wallace a good hard look. He was hitting 5th in their lineup on Saturday.

I am not a huge fan of this trade right now. Wallace to me was major league ready right away and looks like he can put up good, solid major league numbers. It is so early in Gose's career to predict anything yet. It's a high risk-high reward trade made by AA. Hopefully Gose will project as well as everyone thinks.

                My thoughts precisely.
