  • Blue Jays sign Darwin Barney

If 2015 was a full year for Darwin Barney, it would have been a good one: Extrapolating his actual performance, he would have hit 45 home runs, had 91 RBI and posted a 116 OPS+. But, he really had only 27 at-bats last year, hitting two homers and driving in four runs. That was good enough to convince Toronto to give him a one-year deal worth over $1 million, though.

TORONTO (AP) — Infielder Darwin Barney has agreed to a $1.05 million, one-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 30-year-old hit .304 with two homers in 15 games for Toronto after being acquired from the Dodgers on Sept. 13. He batted .277 with four homers and 31 RBIs in 96 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City and was 0 for 4 for Los Angeles, which traded him to Toronto on Sept. 13 for minor league catcher Jack Murphy.
