Annoying ad

Normally, I don't mind any of the ads on this site, but there's one that just started playing that's really annoying. It's your typical shaking text box that says "You are visitor #1,000,000" or something like that, in small red text, but it also makes a chirping noise that's so annoying that I have to refresh the page to make it stop. Twice now it's been distracting me while I've been trying to type a post, and once I lost an entire post when I hit refresh to make it stop. If this one could be taken out of the rotation, it would be much appreciated.

You may want to try Firefox and the AdBlock extension. I didn't even know there were ads here.

I'm on Firefox, and it blocks all the popup ads nicely. This one, however, is a banner ad, and the most annoying one I've yet encountered.

You can block those banner ads (and pretty much any other type of ad) very easily with the AdBlock Plus extension.

Refreshing the page will get rid of it. Still annoying, though. I had encountered it on other websites, so I knew what to expect.

I just heard it - I didn't notice this thread at 1st, but then I figured it out. I had to shutdown everything, well not really, I just had to pause everything to find where the sound was comming from. I thought my new hardrive on my laptop was messing up or something!

Yea, I can't stand that advertisement - I hope this is not the new thing - advertisements with noise.

I understand the need fo the banners. But I frequently visit this site at work, when I clearly should be doing something more productive.

The banners are fine, but I can't have my computer beeping in the middle of the day. I've been turning my sound off when coming to this site, but then I can't hear my emails beep in. Vicious circle...

As I said above, the banners / ads are fine. If we can restrict the ridiculously annoying ones, that would be appreciated.

Sounds very much like my carbon monoxide detectors. When I logged on at home this morning, I actually went down to the part of the basement under my home office to see if it was the batteries or we had a cm problem.

Not a great way to start the day before I've had the first cup of coffee.

Unfortunately, the ads are not directly placed or chosen by Sean, otherwise such ads would never make it this far. The only way to expedite the removal of such ads is to contact him directly or, well, post it here. Once he knows about it, he can get it taken care of among the many things he has to take care of on a daily basis.

I'm sure Brooklyn's situation is hardly unique, which means certain browers and firewall installations may not exactly be cricket.

Just about every ad is making noise now
