  • What Do They Have In Common?

These four pitchers all pitched in the 19th Century. Without cheating by looking up their career stats, can you tell us what they all have in common?

Clay FAUVER, Flip LAFFERTY, George SNYDER, and George STULTZ

First Hint: It is an impressive achievement.

Hint #2: They each only pitched 9 innings in their career.

You left 16 year old Kid Keenan off your list.

I have a hunch you know the answer baseballPaP.

The Kid only pitched 8 innings so he technically isn't in this group. It is interesting that he came up at age 16, and then never pitched in the majors again. I know of a Black Jack Keenan that pitched in the 1890's and wonder if it's him?

Hint #3: They would have led the league in one pitching category had they pitched in enough innings.

His not pitching again might have something to do with the 9 unearned runs......
All of these pitchers pitched complete games without allowing an EARNED run in their only career start. All allowed multiple unearned runs.

They all have Career ERA's of 0.00. Imagine pitching a complete game victory giving up just 4 or 5 hits in your very first ML start, and never pitching in the majors again! I wonder why that happened?
