It can't possibly be a picture of the NY Mets. The Mets first year in baseball was 1962. NOW it is more than likely the NY Giants. The Giants first year in baseball was 1883. What last name are you looking for, that way we can look it up for you and tell you what years, teams, etc, etc.

The 1962 Mets were recycling a traditional name. The most prominent earlier club of that name formed in 1880 and played in the American Association from 1883 to 1887. A semi-pro club formed from the remnants following the teams disbandment, but it didn't last long. There also was an amateur Metropolitan Base Ball Club in the late 1850s.

We really need to see the picture to make even an informed guess.

There was a New York Metropolitans club which played from 1880-1887. They started out as an independent team before joining the American Association in 1883. They had a few prominent players such as Tim Keefe and Dude Esterbrook.
