  • Roy Hobbs World Series

For all of you planning to attend the Ft Myers Women's World Series on October 30th....

need to make a detour to Tucson, Arizona and leave earlier.

Roy Hobbs moved the women's game to October 2nd - October 5th.

(which of course screwed up my whole big announcement... as it was suppose to be that weekend too.... damn it)

Yes, that's what the organization is named after. It's a very well known organization amongst competitive amateur baseball. It has annual tournies in Ft. Myers, Arizona, and Vegas, etc.

Roy Hobbs Baseball is an amateur adult baseball league, servicing more than 750 teams, across the United States, Canada the Caribbean and beyond.

I'm putting together a team to play at Roy Hobbs in October. It would mainly be a Great Lakes team, mostly made up of players from Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland, and possibly having players from South Bend, South Florida, and Phoenix.

As of now, I'm still looking for players to fill positions... all positions. We'd go as the Great Lakes Tide or something like that and will have shirts made for the team.

If anyone is interested in playing with us, please PM me ASAP.

            Thanks! :cap:

Thanks! We have 6 committed players right now and some who haven't committed yet. I'm looking for 6-7 more players.

                  Request for my Daughter

                  Hello,

After you get your team together, would you do me a tremendous favor and send us a team photo signed by all your players for a hero album I'm putting together for my daughter? She is very young but is already crazy about baseball. Problem is she is getting some people at her school telling her that baseball is only for boys which gets her a bit down even though we are encouraging her to follow her dream to play baseball. If you could send this signed team photo, I could use it to show her actual women who are playing baseball now. Anything you could send to our address as follows would be most appreciated:

Address removed by moderator for security reasons. Please contact via PM if you are able to help.

FYI, I am an American presently stationed in Taiwan. If you could so this for us, you would really make one little girl very, very happy!

                  Sincerely,

                  Tim Schoen

                    Hi Tim,

Did you know there's a women's team in Taipei? I just played against them in February of this year. I don't know if there are several teams, but the team we played against (all women) in Hong Kong was called Taipei Vanguard. I played for the NorthStars (a mixed Canadian, and American all-star team from North America) -- put together by the Women's Baseball League, Inc. (www.baseballglory.com).

If your daughter doesn't already know, there are quite a few good sites to check out that are dedicated to women's baseball:

                    カードローンの利用する際に気になることが利息です。返すお金にプラスでかかってくるこの利息ですが、出来れば安く済むところがいいですよね。そこで当サイトでは利息を徹底的に比較して、初めてでも気兼ねなく使えるカードローン会社を紹介しています!気になる方はぜひ一度目を通してみてください!

I found a great domain name for sale on Dan.com. Check it out!

There are more, but this should give her the idea that women CAN and DO play baseball! : )

She can also PM me, and I'll give her an e-mail address if she wants to ask questions.

                    Best,

                    Tiff

                      Hi Tim,

I'd be very glad to fulfill this request for you. If you PM me your e-mail address, I can send you photos via e-mail as well. You can show your daughter my women's team's web site at www.detroitdanger.com. It's full of women's baseball info and links to other women's baseball sites.

Tell your daughter that many/most of us have been told the same thing, that baseball is only for boys, but we haven't listened and have moved beyond the stereotype. Many of us are creating teams and leagues and organizations, many of us have traveled around the U.S., into parts of Canada, and to other countires to play baseball, and we've had nothing but terrific experiences doing it all. Just continue to encourage her and teach her that it doesn't matter what other people say. It only matters what's in her heart and what she wants to do and to follow that and to be confident about her choices.

If you do a search for "women's baseball" in Google or whatever search engine, you will find umpteen web sites about women's baseball. One way to show her that she can play baseball is to show her all these web sites so she can see what's happening and that baseball isn't just for boys.

                      Hope this helps!

                      Thanks,
                      NAE

Thanks. I'll see where we're at. We had a bunch of players respond in the past couple of days.

“Gabby Sanchez wasn’t groomed to be a great softball player - she was taught by her father to play baseball.

And this unique 14-year-old is the first female to play baseball for Rio Linda High School in California.

Sanchez is the first girl to make the Rio Linda baseball team.

Sanchez made the junior varsity baseball team this spring – and beating out 15 boys to earn a spot on the squad.

Though many people may be surprised that a female is on an all-boys’ team, Sanchez’s father, Joe, was not surprised by his daughter’s success.

‘I knew she’d make the team,’ he said. ‘I expected her to make it.’

Gabby indicated that softball was not an option; her first love is baseball. ‘I’ve been playing baseball since I was 4,’ she quipped.

In fact, in Little League she participated on an all-girls’ team that traveled to Cooperstown, N.Y., to play in a tournament. Sanchez’s team defeated an all-boys’ team…”
