  • Little league catcher mask options

I'm looking to get my grandson a cather's mask / helmet for little league AA play. There are two options and I'd appreciate some information on which to select. One option is a hockey type one piece and the other is separate batter helmet and mask. It appears to that the hockey type helmet provides batter protection but is heavier and can get hot. Thanks for your input.

The skull cap and mask are illegal in youth play. The hockey style isn't any hotter that the skull cap and mask, IME. The hockey style fits snug and doesn't have to be removed as the vision is excellent. Foul balls aren't in the air long enough at that level to warrant removal. Best brand, also IME, is All-Star for the hockey style. Not that there aren't other brands that are good.
