  • Worst coach ever!

Anyone hear about the LL coach who benched a 7 yr old because his mother couldn't get off her shift at work to help in the concession stand? This guy should never be able to coach again. He obviously has no idea what LL is supposed to be about. Good experiences for the kids who play. Really pissed me off when I heard it. What does that have to do with the little guy. Talk about a power trip. Thoughts anyone?

Seems to be somewhat reasonable if it was only one game. I remember my dad told me that the parents had jobs they had to do that earn their sons privledge to play, if the parents didn't work what they should, the kid didn't get to play.

If it was the whole season, that's a bit unreasonable and he should be talked with by whoevers in charge.

Dumb, but not that huge of a deal. Would this happen to be your son?

Get your facts straight. The coach did not bench the kid. It's their stated league policy if a parent does not appear or call requesting a replacement for concession duty, the player is not eligible to play. Leagues who do this explain it to the parents at the beginning of the season.

All the mother had to do to avoid the situation is swap concessions times with a weekend assignment. At the worst all she had to do is call that afternoon and say she couldn't make it that night. Blame the mother not the coach.

You guys don't have your priorities straight, seriously. And no, it is not my son. It was all over ESPN radio. This is a 7 year old kid trying to learn how to play baseball and have some fun. He did absolutely nothing wrong. If he was misbehaving in the dugout or on the field fine, don't let him play. If they are the rules of the league, they are dead wrong and need to be changed. Fine the lady $50. I guess if we as parents are insubordinate at work, then our kids should be suspended at school or not allowed to play their video games at home? I'm pretty sure they punished the wrong person. What if this was you that couldn't get out of work, your son got benched, and you went home that night and your son asks you what you did wrong so that he couldn't play in his game. It's ridiculous. Obviously you guys don't understand what LL is supposed to be about either. Come on.

All she had to do is call and request a replacement. How long would that take? Fifteen seconds of ringing and a fifteen second message. The mother is responsible for her son not playing. Rules are rules. Thirty seconds could have averted the problem.

Who cares. No one appointed ESPN God. ESPN is becoming a bigger clown and circus show every year.

If the fault is on the mother, so should be the punishment. End of story.

You are the one that doesn't understand what LL is about. Read the part about being a volunteer organization.

This may be true, but don't punish the kid who was probably looking forward to playing the game all day. Ask somebody in the stands to work concession. 15 seconds. problem averted.

I think you volunteer for the good of the kids. Not so some coach can go on a power rant because he thins he can. Thank god I never had a guy like you as a coach.

Yeah, its apparently about punishing kids for the actions of their parents. That's logical

There were a lot of other ways for this to be handled by BOTH parties, and the solution this coach made was just plain dumb. To point a finger solely at the mother involved is short sighted. And to punish the child is simply the most ignorant part of the whole thing.

This is exactly the reason why coaching doesn't appeal to me at all. If some league thinks I am going to volunteer my time and then have to enforce these kinds of rules that do nothing but punish the kid for no good reason, they are out of their minds.

Please read post #4. League, not coach policy. The coach had nothing to do with having the child sit.

Coach should have grown a set and played the kid and if the league felt so strongly about it that they decided to can the coach, so be it, at least he would have stood on some sort of moral ground and not passed the buck on a rule that punishes the wrong party.

Or he at least could have tried to work out an equitable solution to the situation rather than just duck the whole thing and take the easy way out.

The coach had EVERYTHING to do with the player sitting, He's the one who sat him.
