Great job. I hope the team congratulated him well for that play. I cannot see it from my current computer. We had a boy on our team do that last season and he was castigated for "running down" a player since he beat the runner back to 2nd base. It didn't matter that the short stop and 2nd baseman were completely unaware that he was trying to throw the ball to them so he ran it to base himself. He was the 1st baseman. The umpire was a new kid who was easily manipulated by some of the coaches but that was changed.
Anyway. Good to hear people still doing that. Good for them.

Nice play! I hope he got the ball...
My daughter had two in 9u softball, in consecutive games. The first she had to chase down the runner back to first and got her about 2/3 of the way, as the 1B was not involved like she should have been. There was some "what just happened?" from lots of parents as she just trotted off the field. The second was a ball hit to the her left that she had to backhand at her shoe tops.. She tagged the runner going to third right after she caught it and got the runner heading from first easily. After the second one she sort of spiked the ball at the pitchers mound... Nothing over the top or across the line, but her teammates and parents were on board with the second one and it got pretty loud as the play unfolded and finally after it was completed.
I was coaching and immediately took both balls out of play. She helped me inscribe them and they are still up on a shelf in her room.Last edited by StanTheMan; 10-15-2012, 04:47 PM."Herman Franks to Sal Yvars to Bobby Thomson. Ralph Branca to Bobby Thomson to Helen Rita... cue Russ Hodges."
