It's possible that a similar turnstile was later made by Peavy, which would become the source of the auction house info. I believe that Ebbets Field and YS used the same turnstiles (though possibly at different times).

For the 3D project, we used the 1940 image below (from the Yankee locker room during the off-season) as a reference. The turnstile model shown is one that was around in the 1920s, and even earlier.




It looks like the same model was used in Ebbets in the 1950s:




It's possible this was a widely replicated style. Can't read the nameplates on these, so can't be 100% sure.

I have to admit that this is a nice photo of RYS..
It still doesn't look as good as OYS used to, or as good as NYS does, but it's a great photo.

What I find most interesting about this picture is that you can clearly see where the new concrete meets the old outer wall. The additional structure is clearly distinguishable from the original. It's as if the stadium was scalped and a new head put on...

Too bad they installed those cheap looking metal shutters, and just didn't leave the window areas open..
Maybe that's why I like this photo so much..

Thats because NYS settled for good and Renovated Yankee Stadium strived to be Greater than Great. Iconic in every sense of the word.

I see what you mean Doug. The lower concrete exterior was extended to enclose the old lower roof of the original Yankee Stadium creating a new upper deck concourse and ofcourse the overhang of the last 10 row addition raised the overall height as well.

I wonder if the engineers could have created an open air concourse similar to new Yankee Stadium and added white V girders to enhance the overall appearance of the additional 10 rows of the upper deck.

The new cantilever ring would have been exposed as well as the cantilever cables.

The Louver Vents had been a signature feature of Pre and Post Renovated Yankee Stadium and added to the cathedral like feeling of the one and only Yankee Stadium 1923-2008.

I'm guessing the cathedral glass window design was not carried over to Renovated Yankee Stadium because of the decaying Bronx neighbohood in the early to mid 1970's.

Instead a uniform look of Louver Vents was the design of choice.

I'm sure the status of the Bronx neighborhood also played a role in the cinder blocking/stucco work done to fill in the lower exterior windows as well.

Photos of Pre-Renovated Yankee Stadium show metal grates were added to the exterior glass windows to protect them from vandals.

Leave the "white V girders" on the mall across the street. RYS wasn't perfect - but she was all the Yankee Stadium I needed.

In 1923 a copper baseball bat was put on top of the Yankee flag pole to act as a weather vane. Was this bat three feet or eight feet long? The newspaper articles I've seen are quite fuzzy, so it's hard to tell.

I've read the 8-foot figure, but that's hard to believe. I think the 3-foot version is more likely. It's hard to get a good idea as to the bat's length, as it is usually photographed from a distance, and at an oblique angle. I will look into it a bit more.


[EDIT: Here's an image from OD 1933. Maybe the bat was 8-ft long after all. It certainly looks at least as long as that man at the bottom of the flag pole is tall. Oblique angle means it would appear even longer if seen completely from the side]

BTW, this thread should really be titled "Yankee Stadium (I) Renovation (1973-1976)", as much of the work was done in 1973 and 1976.

Hey, I think I can see "Row M" in this photo.. The row that I had my "Plan B" half season tickets in Tier Reserved U2, in RYS..
A row that didn't exist in OYS..
