I was watching the brewers at cubs game last night on fox sports wisconsin and bill and brian (the brewers tv announcers) were saying 3 years ago the cubs rebuilt the playing field for the first time and while they did that they found all sorts of interesting things like the goal posts from when the chicago bears still played football at wrigley and pieces of football equipment and many other interesting things

I was looking at an aerial photo of modern Wrigley Field and noticed a small food court area behind home plate above the red WRIGLEY FIELD HOME OF CHICAGO CUBS sign. What is that area and when did it show up?The Mets have the best, smartest fans in baseball.

I'm not the expert here. But, when they said the goal posts, they meant the foundations that were under the playing field. Of note, the previous field was not level either, so when it was rebuilt, it was excavated and re-graded. Surely the 'football equipment' was merely stuff (snaps, etc) that fell into the ground and became part of the field.
I really can't imagine them finding a pit full of old helmets or anything of the like.
The foundations were deep enough that they didn't require removal. These were the foundations that the goalpoasts slid into.
The ivy looks odd...

Here's the install of the goal post foundation for the NU game last year.
Is there another football game in the works there this fall? I saw that NU is playing ND at home in 2018. Wrigley?Last edited by Matt The Hammer; 10-28-2011, 10:34 AM.

I would expect that the NU/ND game would be played at Soldier Field.
