Last event at Yankee Stadium to be... hockey?

This would be a stupid idea for the last event ever there. It reminds me of how the last game played at tampa stadium wasn't the bucs, but the mutiny, the short lived mls soccer team.
Any other great stadiums close with the non dominate sport being the team to close it?The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

I think it is a great idea! Yankee Stadium, while mainly a baseball cathedral, has transcended our society with many events other than baseball over its rich history. An outdoor hockey game on this level will fit in nicely with the stadium's legacy. Lets go RANGERS!!

This is a stupid idea.
This is clearly the NHL's idea to stage what might be another successful Winter Classic as they had this season, and what better way they think that they can pull off the next one is to do it in New York City, the media capital of the world. I think they're better off doing it the following year once the new Yankee Stadium is completed, not when a sacred baseballl cathedral is closing. That last Yankees home game should be the last event at the stadium barring the playoffs. It's only fitting that the last event of Yankee Stadium is with a baseball game, not hockey. Of course, money talks. Shouldn't suprise any of us today.

I liked the idea when they first thought of possibly doing it a few years ago, but I would prefer the last event at Yankee Stadium to be game 6 in the WS and the Yankees winning it all.
-Also, where would they put the rink so that there's not too much space between the stands and action. Made an example where they could possibly put it (very bored at work)...rink isn't to scaleAttached Filessigpic

I don't care if the last event at YS is a Yankees game, a hockey game, a dog show or the simultaneous circumcision of 20,000 babies. I would mind if the last event at YS is a fiasco.
Outdoor hockey is a dicey proposition at best, by best I mean in the depths of Alberta. Winter in NYC can mean temperatures from 0° to 50° or higher, with sun, rain, sleet or snow.
Further, anybody who follows hockey knows that the ice at MSG is renowned for its poor quality. So if the boys at MSG are going to be in charge of creating an ice surface in the middle of YS we can hope for the best, but not expect it. And it's not like the game in Buffalo was a rousing artistic success this season.
This sounds like a farce waiting to happen.

It's a no-brainer. If the final game isn't a Yankee game, it has to be a Giants game. Like, a hockey game at the Stadium is kind of too "new concept" for a ballpark that is about to be torn down don't cha think?
If it was possible to get 10,000 temp stands around it, a cooler idea could be having the game at Wollman Rink.
