  • Ballparks Used For Concerts

There is a thread for baseball stadiums in football configurations. I figured let's start a thread showing them being used for concerts and pretty much anything else but baseball or football.

These photos are from "Busch Stadium Moments."

The first is from a concert in the summer of 1977 at Busch II. I think this was Superjam '77. Apparently it was a hot July day that reached 92° with the crowd exceeding 45,000. Bands featured were REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent, Head East, Gypsy and Judas Priest.

The second photo is from a Who concert on August 11th, 1989.

Baseball Stadium used for concerts, etc.

I remembered that I missed KISS at Dodger Stadium and I also missed Bruce Springsteen at Dodger Stadium. I saw KISS and Ted Nugent live-in-concertat the Arrowhed Pond of Anaheim on March 18th,2000. I also saw Gloria Estefan live-in-concert at the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim during August 2004. And for the few years the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim is called the Honda Center.

The Beatles played at Busch Stadium in 1966.... but I have never been able to find a photo of the event, just the tickets.

Don't forget the Beatle at Shea Stadium in 1966. Still one of the most famous concerts in American History. At the time, it broke all records for tickets sold, attendance, etc. for a music performance in the USA.

Stan, one of the books I have on Busch II has a picture of screaming fans at the Beatles concert behind the chicken wire backstop. It also has a picture of the Beatles on stage. Unfortunately no pictures that can indentify a nice shot of Busch during the concert. Did they do a similar set up like they did at Shea, with the stage on the field around 2nd base and no fans on the field?

I would think so... by 1966 Beatlemania, especially in the USA, was simply beyond anything we will ever see, and the more distance between the Beatles and the front row the better. Fans at Shea tried to break through the barriers and make to the stage, which was out by 2nd base.

Heck, the Beatles had to arrive at concert venues in Armored Cars (like they did at Shea), helicopters, Ambualnces, Seafood delivery trucks, etc. to throw off the fans or to stay protected.

No way the Beatles played with a setup like you posted for the concerts at Busch above. Thousands would have stormed the stage.

The Beatles also played at Crosley Field in Cincinnati back in the 60's.

U2 and Billy Joel have played at Yankee Stadium, as well as Pink Floyd, and the Isley Brothers. As well as 2 popes, as well as one coming in April. Also, a wedding has been performed on home plate, as well as boxing matches, football matches and soccer matches. Also a Jehovahs Witness function starting from 1950, which the first one attracted 123,707.

My god. I went to see the Stones at Giants stadium a few years ago. It cost $50 for the ticket.

There was an urban legend in Cleveland about this concert. The legend was that the stage was empty when the plane buzzed the stadium which drew everyone's attention upward, and then when everyone looked down, Pink Floyd had taken the stage.

That sounds pretty good. I presume that when you said urban legend, it was untrue right?

I have an older brother that was at the concert
and that is the way he recalls what happened
even though he was a little mentally incapacitated
                            at the time.
