Luckily that's only sand. Apparently they pour sand into the surface to help solidify it once every few weeks after new sod has been installed. That picture was taken from the Twitter feed of head groundskeeper Luke Yoder.

      • Better shot taken today by head groundskeeper Luke Yoder of some more testing of the new board. You can also see some of the other improvements to the left field area, notably the new standing room only area directly beneath the new board

        • I think the new standing room only section at Progressive Field looks way better than this.

lol I was about to say let's not go saying things we can't take back
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

              • What is the point of adding standing room areas to ballparks that don't come to drawing capacity crowds regularly anyway? This isn't specifically targeting Petco, but in general, why?

If you're walking around it gives you a place to hang out for a while, and if there's space, you can lean against the railing.
Please help. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer last summer, and now I'm in a position where I need financial assistance. For the full story, please check out my GoFundMe campaign at https://gofund.me/3874ea2d. Thank you.

Because of cheapskates like me who like to roam the park for that "perfect spot" that isn't my seat.

Luckily, that's only digital and only viewable to TV viewers.
