  • Baker Bowl / Philadelphia Park / Philadelphia Base Ball Grounds

Thought I'd start a thread for the other classic Philly park, the Baker Bowl.

    1915.

    1931.

Opening Day 1938, Phillies' last year there. Dolph Camilli of the Brooks goes yard.

    1939, in racing configuration:

"the Phillies use lifebuoy and they STILL stink" classic!
    It is 9:46 p.m.

Vin Scully with the call: Two and 2 to Harvey Kuenn, one strike away. Sandy into his windup, here's the pitch.....

Swung on and missed, a perfect game!!

I love the photos of the Baker Bowl and the warehouse down the left field line.

That warehouse building is still standing to this day... as is the triangular building in back of CF....

Yeah, Baker Bowl pics are tough to find. Here's some that may or may not have been posted here somewhere before.

The above Temple pics are from 1939, after the Phillies moved out.

                More from the last game

1950 Captioned "High winds demolish wall of old Baker Bowl". Do they have tornados in Philly?

Finally, here's an ornament from the old stadium

He says right before posting a ton of pics of the BB that I've never seen before.

                  Those pics are great!

this is one of ralph kiner's favortie stories, he tells it every year (as only ralph can do). if your're over the age of 40 you've heard it many times...

one thing not mentioned in the story, the face of the upper half of the rf fence was made of tin. any ball hitting it would make a racket.

                            reality really sucks.
                            enjoy the game more...
