Because photos will last forever; and getting a photograph of the Stadium without the embarassing pods would be ideal.

None exist from 1923-1973 and during the renovation prior to the pod going in? It might be a minor curiosity now, but in future years I will want to see photos of the stadium intact, in all of its' incarnations, not its' demolition.

It's not because we do not know what the stadium looked like without the pods, but we would like to see the pods go first and the walls last then seeing the pods go last. It is the worst thing they did in the renovation. So naturally we want it gone first.

        • Yeah you guys might be right about the pods being last. It looks like they are separating it from the rest of the stadium

Not sure if this is what you are referring to, but it's an interesting shot, nonetheless.

the improvements include a food court with no tv's (which much to my surprise hundreds of Boston fans? were eating at while the game was on- I would never miss a few innings to eat)
If your in the grandstand can you really walk around and soakin the atmosphere in that one lane up top that is shared by standing room
I dont put a major value on the concourses and seat size- but they are nice- and I hate malls
give me nys, rys, oys anytime
Im not a met fan but Ill take citi over it as well

and I know the seats on top of the green monster are a real selling point- but it doesnt work for me- the monster to me lost some of its historical luster
By "physically viable", I wasn't thinking in terms of 2010 standards for new construction, but Fenway Park is bigger and better than it was 10 years ago. And it's viable enough for 3 million fans to buy into each year. Between 4000-5000 seats have been added and it's now nearly equal in capacity to many of the new (post 1992) ballparks. About the same as Pittsburgh, in fact.

I do agree with you on the Monster seats. As you write, they do sell well, but that's the one change that I would have passed on.

As for rating ballparks, I usually leave out Yankee Stadium (either version) as I'm too familar with it to be objective in comparing it to the others. So I'll rate Fenway first overall and Wrigley second. I do believe that Camden Yards is still the best of the new ones. But to be non-objective for the moment, old Yankee Stadium is the greatest to me!

              Regards,
              Mark

They're saving the pod as George Steinbrenner's crypt. He'll be buried there.

There's always at least one skunk at the party.

I have a suggestion that will end this debate once and for all. If members of this site are willing to pony up the money a poll of Massachusetts adults could be commissioned asking if they want to keep Fenway or build a new one within the next decade. Polling is cheaper than one would think and a national polling company such as Rasmussen or Survey USA would probably only charge no more than 3 thousand.

My guess is over 70% would want to keep Fenway.

Why is George Steinbrenner always being blamed for RYS?
The plans to alter OYS was already set in stone, in 1970..
Three years before George bought the team..

                    • The Pod at Gate 4 is the field office for Turner, so it would make sense that it would go down last.

                        • I think that it ceased to be the field office months ago when the heavy demo started. Then they moved into trailers closer to Gate 6.
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Yankee Stadium. Here are the lineups for todays game...

                            • I think George's frozen head should sit upon a pod. Damn things look like cans of tuna.

                              Yeah, I went there.

                              Pppfftffftttt!!!!

                              • Someone should sneak inside the fences at night and take a piece of the outside wall. That would be a pretty cool way to remember the stadium
