      • I don't post much, but all I wanna say is I miss the old place. It just tears me up to see these pics of the place getting torn down. In 10 years they'll realize what a mistake they made. And thats really sad........

        • Dear giantsean,

I agree with what you're saying about the steel holding the weight. Still, I'm not an engineer, so I didn't know what to expect. I'm still surprised that it's not as thick as I'd imagined.

          • Dear Yankee Paul.

They'll realize it much sooner. Especially if the NYC Parks Department goes through with the RIDICULOUS plans they have. To leave no part of the existing Yankee Stadium is inexcusable!!! If it were up to the powers that be in this decision, they would have also destroyed Mount Vernon, The White House, Monticello, and many other iconic buildings of great importance to American history.

Actually it's the Angels Angels of Anaheim

No. Los Angeles tranlates to "the Angels". City of Angels translates to "Ciudad de Angeles".

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim translates to "the Angels Angels of Anaheim"

This post translates to "nothing whatsoever to do with Yankee Stadium"

                • Ok folks... the verdict is in. Fail. Hear me out though.

Made my first trip to the NYS. Brought my middle kid. For those of you with 3 kids, its very important do take them out on their own on occassion. The poor guy gets bossed around by his older sister old lot and his little brother needs a lot of attention. Went I get the chance, I do things just me and him. He's five. First let me say that I almost lost it as I held his hand walking through the turnstyle. It hit me hard that we were both entering this building for the first time together and that maybe when I'm gone he'll recall this moment. My voice cracked as I said to him "ok let's find our seats" and we smiled at each other. The great hall didn't really much do anything for me. It's unneccessary. Our seats were in 114b and i have to say I really did like the open concourse. There is airy quality. But there is way too much going on. This stadium is trying WAY too hard. The focus is not on play at all. You find yourself distracted. Things are too spread out. There is a constant drone of noise coming from behind you on the concourse. The pitch of the filed level seats doesn't seem steep enough. Heads bobbed by and vendors seemed to get in the way way too much. But back to the noise... It's not concentrated enough. To airy. Visually it's the same thing. I don't feel like there's a ball game going on in front of me. Not to the extent it was at the real Stadium. I'm sure I'll find words to decribe it better as time goes on. It's a nice stadium. But this is not Yankee Stadium. Not a stadium befitting this ball club. Oh and that wall in right is MUCH shorter. You can set it with the naked eye. It's like a little league field. The resturant in center makes it seem even smaller. The old black in RYS seemed so damned far away. Even if the wall wasn't. So while the seating around the stadium is spread out, the outfield seems to close. Strange.

We parked on the top of the old first base side parking lot. Took some pics of the gate 6 area. I've never seen something so creepy and disturbing as that last portion of real Yankee Stadium sitting there with it's guts hanging out. You are pretty close to it up there on the roof of that parking lot. My son wanted to leave in the 5th inning as it was so hot and frankly he's 5 so the attention span isn't there yet (although I heard him tell his sister when we got home that his eyes were burning from all the fail at NYS), so we went back to the parking lot and took some more pics of the old place. Someone must have hit a home run because we could hear the cheering as we were looking at the last standing piece of RYS. It was surreal. Sad in ways I can't express. About those cheers... It was pretty loud from all the way back to old gate 6. I'm thinking more volume leaves the stadium than stays in it. It is just not designed to be a a loud place like the real one. It's too open.

Anyway, I'm going to keep going because this will be my kids place. I'll be damned if I let them become Met fans. But it'll be a once a year thing. When the get older they'll decide if they want to keep going. All I can do is expose them. My tickets were free but were $175 each. Unless more freebies come my way (they will) I won't be doing even that one trip a year. Yankee Stadium is dead and this new place is just some fancy nice ballpark with no real soul and is trying way too hard.

                  But.... It failed.

                  Fail.

I thank you for your time.

                  I remain,

                  • Well Max, at least you got to enjoy a day out with your son. A 5 yr old will not really appreciate a MLB game; I was 6 when I saw my first game in person and I had no clue, but the following season I knew what was going on.

Without getting into your 'unbiased review', I do have a few questions.

From a 5 yr old's perspective, or even as a dad with a 5 yr old, did you prefer the concourse at OYS/RYS where it often became a cattle crossing, or did you feel safer with the NYS concourse?

Did you have to take your son to the rest room? If so, were the lines shorter at NYS than across the street? Were the bathrooms cleaner than across the street? Were they bigger than across the street?

Since you were in pretty good seats, did you appreciate the extra leg room and the cup holders? They come in handy when kids are around.

I would think you would like the better access to and from your seats, not to mention the ease it is getting in and out of the stadium.

God forbid, but one hopes that we never have to evacuate any stadium in a hurry, but as a dad I would want to be in a stadium that was not cramped if the situation ever arises. Ever read about OYS and fans being trampled to death, yes death, due to fans stampeding to get out of a rain storm?
Would any of us want to be in that situation, let alone put our kids in that situation.

From a comfort and safety perspective, RYS was an improvement over OYS, and NYS is a huge improvement over RYS. On the other side of town, Shea was a huge improvement in comfort and safety over the Polo Grounds; and Citi Field is a huge improvement over Shea.

As a father, don't we want that?

#1. No 5 year old unless he has heard his father say it 10 times a day and is completely brainwashed will ever say his "eyes are burning from all the fail at NYS".

#2. Thats what people have to understand, with these new ballparks, and in particuliar the new ones in NY, HOK is completely trying to change or alter how you view a game.
If you go back to your memory bank, walking through the concourses at old YS was never a big deal. You took a piss, got your food, and then it was off to see the "game". It wasn't even until the late 90s they added audio to concourses so people could hear the games. I'm a Mets fan, and to this day I still remember my first ever game back in the early 80s. I've never seen a field more beaurtiful than the one that popped in my view that warm Saturday afternoon, not ever.

#3. People will claim that left field is the same, but I could not agree more. The right field porch really looks like a little league field. It could be the eye doing tricks since the fence at old YS was a good 2 or 3 ft higher and the loge and upper deck hung out further which made it possibly looker farther. If you're a lefty with even relative power there is no way you can't that wall.

The bathrooms were top notch. No debate. As far as feeling safe or a feeling of "can I get out of here" in an emergency with my kid? Nah, I wasn't afraid of that at RYS. I guess it would be easier getting out of NYS. But I take my kid on the subway and hockey games enough to know we are frequently in danger. Can't live in a bubble. Clean and HUGE bathrooms are not enought to tear down the House That Ruth Built. Especially when they were trying to make this place special. I don't think they did. It's a failure on that level.

My 8 year old has been there 30 plus times and loves it and he WAS at rys which he loved as well
My 4 year old just likes to run up and down the ramp- he seems to love it as well as he wants to go back

as for your little guy what was this fail for him compared to? very odd choice of words for a 5 year old Maybe he just has no interest in baseball and the game itself was the fail

lets face it for little guys whats not to love
run around eat cotton candy watch some of the game- saying what he did I would find very odd- ask him what he meant by that- just curious
