My 4 year old just likes to run up and down the ramp- he seems to love it as well as he wants to go back
as for your little guy what was this fail for him compared to? very odd choice of words for a 5 year old Maybe he just has no interest in baseball and the game itself was the fail
lets face it for little guys whats not to love
run around eat cotton candy watch some of the game- saying what he did I would find very odd- ask him what he meant by that- just curious
I brought my girlfriend's 9 year old son & 8 year old daughter to the game last Friday night, and they both LOVED NYS!
The son was in RYS before, and likes NYS a lot better than RYS, and like you said, Mastermind, who could blame him.
With the glorious frieze right above our heads, in section 420, they both were in awe of it!
Yeah, it doesn't look like the frieze of OYS, but that was made of copper. I'm sure it would be a lot tougher to put that kind of detail in steel.
It's funny...
The 9 year old asked me last Friday as to why the other stadium didn't have that above and around the stadium. I told him that it did many, many years ago, but they destroyed that stadium in the early 1970's, and completely did away with it.
He asked me, "why did they do that??" I told him that I had no idea why, but that they were stupid in doing so.
He said, well good thing they built this stadium with it.. I laughed and agreed with him...
Oh, how I love NYS!!!
I can't wait to go to tonight's game...
Hey Monument, what time are we leaving??
Let's hit the Hard Rock Cafe before the game!

My five year old just called me from home and said he and his little 2.5 year old brother just made a card board NYS and they used some plastic fencing from their playskool farm set as a freize. He swears it looks more like the original than the one at NYS. I'm a little skeptical but I can't wait to go home and see for myself!Fake Yankee stadium Fail!

Maxluger, touching story about going through the turnstyle with your son for the first time. Made me think of my dad. It's a moment that will forever be ingrained in your son's (and your) mind.
I'd attribute a lot of your distractions to your being there for the first time. I kind of felt the same way too the first time, but in subsequent visits the mind settles in, the eyes wander less and the focus becomes the game. That's when you truly start to appreciate the superior sightlines, the frieze where it belongs, the overall beautiful design, how all the pieces were put together and how everything seems to work, and all the amenities and creature comforts that RYS didn't have.
And that shorter wall in RF? If you mean the height of the actual wall, welcome back to OYS and its shorter RF wall. Many of NYS's ideas and elements are take from OYS (thankfully) and even if not exact, it's reminiscent of OYS, like the walls, the scoreboards on those walls, the bleachers, the colors of the bleacher seats, the frieze, the more industrial look throughout, etc. It's one of the main reasons that I like NYS nad prefer it to RYS, which SUBTRACTED from OYS.

I prefer Citi Field, Camden Yards, PNC Park, CBP, and of course, the beautiful NYS. Over Fenway Park, Wrigley's Field, Shea Stadium, and RYS..
I was at Fenway for Opening Day, and thank God I upgraded to the new Pavilion Box, where we had our own bathrooms, and concession stands. If I sat in the Grandstand area, or in the lower level seats, (which I have in year's past) it would've been a nightmare! I missed 3 innings a few years back because I had to take a leak! Uuuuuuugh!!!
Thank God for enginuity!"We're relying on you to take the memories from this stadium, and add them to the new memories we make at the new Yankee Stadium, and continue to pass them on from generation to generation." Derek Jeter: September 21, 2008.

But, hey, it was built in 1912, so long live Fenway! Screw cleanliness and basic comforts! Who cares if my Fenway Frank has a vermin hair or two on it!

For the record, I liked RYS as well...
But I do genuinely like NYS better..
Would I feel that way if OYS was never renovated? No..
But it is so clear to me that I never stepped foot inside OYS, when I see photos of both OYS & RYS..
They are two different places IMHO..."We're relying on you to take the memories from this stadium, and add them to the new memories we make at the new Yankee Stadium, and continue to pass them on from generation to generation." Derek Jeter: September 21, 2008.

Did you not recognize Jeter becoming the all-time New York Yankees hits leader in NYS last year, and the Yankees winning World Championship #27, in NYS last November??"We're relying on you to take the memories from this stadium, and add them to the new memories we make at the new Yankee Stadium, and continue to pass them on from generation to generation." God forbid, but one hopes that we never have to evacuate any stadium in a hurry, but as a dad I would want to be in a stadium that was not cramped if the situation ever arises. Ever read about OYS and fans being trampled to death, yes death, due to fans stampeding to get out of a rain storm?
Would any of us want to be in that situation, let alone put our kids in that situation.
That incident was in 1929 under the old wooden rightfield bleachers, not even the post-36 stadium or, God forbid, the renovated stadium now in its death throes! (Babe Ruth famously held the hand of a young woman who lay dying in the locker room waiting for the ambulance).Cleon Jones catches a deep fly ball in F. Scott Fitzgerald's Valley of the Ashes, and a second-grader smiles in front of the black and white television.

The new parks are safer, and a heckuva lot more comfortable. When I look at old parks, including OYS, Ebbets and the Polo Grounds, I see obstructed views, cramped seats, fire hazards galore. I get the history. I have personally been to many of the old classics, but the comfort factor favors the new places.
