God forbid, but one hopes that we never have to evacuate any stadium in a hurry, but as a dad I would want to be in a stadium that was not cramped if the situation ever arises. Ever read about OYS and fans being trampled to death, yes death, due to fans stampeding to get out of a rain storm?
Would any of us want to be in that situation, let alone put our kids in that situation.
    Foul! Foul! Oh, umpire....

That incident was in 1929 under the old wooden rightfield bleachers, not even the post-36 stadium or, God forbid, the renovated stadium now in its death throes! (Babe Ruth famously held the hand of a young woman who lay dying in the locker room waiting for the ambulance).
Cleon Jones catches a deep fly ball in F. Scott Fitzgerald's Valley of the Ashes, and a second-grader smiles in front of the black and white television.

Yes, I know it was ages ago. Just like the collapse in Baker Bowl. But the fact remains people died.

The new parks are safer, and a heckuva lot more comfortable. When I look at old parks, including OYS, Ebbets and the Polo Grounds, I see obstructed views, cramped seats, fire hazards galore. I get the history. I have personally been to many of the old classics, but the comfort factor favors the new places.

What does this have to do with anything??

Did you not recognize Jeter becoming the all-time New York Yankees hits leader in NYS last year, and the Yankees winning World Championship #27, in NYS last November??
Well, if you think Yankee Stadium was a completely different building after the renovation, wouldn't all "Yankee Stadium" records restart when RYS opened up? And yes, of course I recognized all that happened in the NYS last season.

No denying that's an obstruction. But for 5 bucks you have the ability to roam the stadium, even stand directly behind seats worth hundreds of dollars. If you buy them from a reseller for $15-20 dollars on stubhub (often less), it's still a bargain.

#2. Thats what people have to understand, with these new ballparks, and in particuliar the new ones in NY, HOK is completely trying to change or alter how you view a game.
If you go back to your memory bank, walking through the concourses at old YS was never a big deal. You took a piss, got your food, and then it was off to see the "game". It wasn't even until the late 90s they added audio to concourses so people could hear the games. I'm a Mets fan, and to this day I still remember my first ever game back in the early 80s. I've never seen a field more beaurtiful than the one that popped in my view that warm Saturday afternoon, not ever.

#3. People will claim that left field is the same, but I could not agree more. The right field porch really looks like a little league field. It could be the eye doing tricks since the fence at old YS was a good 2 or 3 ft higher and the loge and upper deck hung out further which made it possibly looker farther. If you're a lefty with even relative power there is no way you can't that wall.
I began going to Yankee Stadium in 1986 and I distinctly remember WABC in the concourses long, long before the late 90s.

Agree... it was the only way to know what was going on when you went to the restroom or concession stand. Later they added TV's throughout the concourse. All of which I loved as part of the experience (and knowing you were on TV!)

That was your point in all of this???
                    LMAO!!!

Look, there is no way anybody here is going to tell me that the renovation during the 1970's did NOT destroy the original beauty of OYS...
                    NOBODY!!!

                    • It's amazing..

It's amazing how NYS resembles OYS so much more than RYS does...
Especially when NYS is a new and completely different building, and RYS and OYS are the same building...

                      GO FIGURE!!!!

                          • That is so gorgeous, I grew up going there in the Mantle days, boy was that great. Its so tragic that its gone now. I still cant believe the city couldnt leave a small part of it standing in the new park. Oh well, they cant take my memories away from me.

Check out this great model i have of the scoreboard, its about 15" long by 13" high, really looks great in my sports room, that was such a great scoreboard!!

I AM SO THANKFUL FOR BEING BORN IN NEW YORK AND FOR BEING A FAN OF ALL NEW YORK SPORTS TEAMS

I thought it was plainly obvious what my point was: if you can recognize a record that was set during the pre-renovated days, and was broken during the post-renovated days as valid, then you must think that it is the same building. Not sure how you missed that connection, to be honest.

And listen, I am NOT telling you that the renovation during the 1970's did NOT destroy the original beauty of OYS. I am simply saying that RYS was the same building as OYS (albeit looked a little different because of ignorance), and had some of the exact same reference points. RYS felt a lot more like Yankee Stadium than the Elvis Impersonator across the street ever will.
