It's not just about the Stadium that has made some of us to be the not-so-rabid-fan or even ex-fans we are now. For me, and maybe others here, it was the tipping point. Everyone has one. Why can't some people see this I wonder. Suppose they installed artificial turf, a giant Ferris wheel in center, traded Jeter, Rivera and Cano for Chipper Jones and changed their uniforms to ones reminiscent of the Houston Astros 1975. Would you who claim to root for this team hell or high water still be fans? If so, why? I'd say you're BSing me if you say yes. So that would be YOUR tipping point.
Everyone has their tipping point. The destruction of the biggest part of their history was mine. Because I can see the motives and they aren't consistent with "pride" and "tradition". If the real Stadium was revealed to be structurally unsound or burned down in some horrible accident or terrorist attack I would be all for a new one, even across the street. But we all know that place was fine and setting records for attendance.
Some things matter to some people. Being a Yankee fan set me apart from all the other clubs because of its seemingly devotion to its past. That's just how I'm made. It's how I roll. I personally don't believe this anymore and a large chunk of my devotion to this team is gone. I watch it like any other sport now. I am not on the edge of my seat praying to God for a hit and I will go to the stadium once a year instead of 5-10 times. And I'm angry enough about it to waste my time posting my thoughts about it on an internet message board. I hope you are all mature enough to handle that.
Bless you all,

I was! All the ladies were smiling at me and my lil' boy. Which reminds me, was it Bring the Hottest Girl You've Ever Known Day at the stadium last Sunday? Jesus! They were all over!
And the people in the Morbidly Obese Section to my right were eyeing us up like we were pork chops or something.
So I'd say we made everyone near us quite happy.Fake Yankee stadium Fail!

LOL that reminds me of the time Mel Allen hit a walk off on, I think it was, a 4th of July game. I was running around the house pumping my first and screaming. And there was no one home. I was alone! LOL.
Magical days my friend... I was young and didn't know it was just a business.Fake Yankee stadium Fail!

Maybe if they sold the team to Osama Bin Laden then i would stop rooting for them, otherwise, you aint gonna take my Yankees away from me. First of all, they cant erase all the great memories that will be with me forever, and i will always love them no matter what stupid things they may do in the present and future, thats what a true good fan does.
Go Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I AM SO THANKFUL FOR BEING BORN IN NEW YORK AND FOR BEING A FAN OF ALL NEW YORK SPORTS TEAMS

I have spent a lifetime rooting for them, from watching Mantle roam the grand old stadium to watching Jeter out there now, and i would not stop rooting for them no matter what they do. I bet i have stronger negative feelings towards knocking the old stadium down then most people here, absolutely, it kills me beyond belief, i want to cry when i see the pictures of whats left. However i am a Yankee fan.

Should I be yelling my throat sore after an employee of this major corporation hits a home run these days? I'm thinking polite clapping will do just fine now.

Its just dawning on you now that the yankees have always been about business.
Have you not read the books of previous owners and Gms and battles with players over every last penny- and how many owners let the old stadium decay

In reality though, thats not a good analogy. I have spent a lifetime (which just hit 62 years) rooting for them. You have ups and downs with anything, even with your spouse you might go thru a tough period where they did some bad things (not beating, i have no tolerance for that) and while some people quickly throw in the towel and give up, others work it out and in time its good again.
Hey, at least they stayed in New York and stayed in virtually the same spot which still gives them that 161st Street Bronx identity. If they had built a stadium in New Jersey and changed their name to New Jersey, that would have been my tripping point. It the New York name thats the hook, i still root for the Giants and Jets because they call themselves New York, if they had changed their name to New Jersey i would have stopped rooting for them. So yes, we all have our tipping point, but we all have different tipping points.
Besides, you got get all the enjoyment you can in life, as life is full of serious crap, so sometimes you gotta roll with the punches and not let others take your enjoyment away. I get immense enjoyment out of rooting for the Yankees, and they aint gonna take that out of my life even though they destroyed the greatest sports cathedral in the history of this country.I AM SO THANKFUL FOR BEING BORN IN NEW YORK AND FOR BEING A FAN OF ALL NEW YORK SPORTS TEAMS

YOU SPOILED BRATS!
Someday the Pirates will return from the wilderness. Don't look to bandwagon on us, 'cause we don't want you.
These "so called" yankee fans, who say they can't root for this team b/c the moved to a different venue are not real fans. As a O's fan I have to deal w/ losing, losing and more losing. I don't say I'm done w/ this franchise and can't root for them. I don't say I will not root for this team as long as Peter Angelos is our owner and ruins this proud franchise. No......I root for my team.
I love Camden Yards. When the day comes that they decide to build a new stadium I will be dissapointed and will miss it but will move on and continue to root for my team.
To all these "so called" yankee fans who are abandoning their team....stay away from my O's ..........your not wanted. We are real fans who love our miserable team....no matter how bad it gets.Last edited by Tullydew; 05-07-2010, 07:31 AM.
