  • Worst of the "new classic" ballparks?

I was watching sportscenter last night, and I noticed that there are a few of the new HOK ballparks that really aren't that impressive considering the amount of money put into their construction. So, since the inception of Camden Yards in 1992 (an event that I guess is now basically the genesis of the 'new classic' ballpark era) which five stadiums do you think are the worst?

    1. Nationals : Just don' like the way it looks
    2. Minute Maid : What's with that stupid hill in CF?
    3. Arlington: The idea to have different parks around the AL all chopped into one look is ugly
    4. Turner : Too damn dark at night
    5. Progressive : Too many insects

Title of this thread though is a bit misleading, as "New Classic" kind of implies the style that stadiums like Camdem, Citi, Bush, Safeco, Coors, Petco, PNC, etc were going for.

I would say NYS, Nationals Park, and Great American Ballpark do not fit into that category of a new take on the older designs.

Chase, Petco, Nats Park, and maybe even PNC, Citizens Bank, or the Jake, don't really fit into the "retro" mold to me, so my vote would have to go to:

                    1. Miller
                    2. Arlington
                    3. Yankee III
                    4. Turner
                    5. Tie between Comerica and Minute Maid

Why is NYS getting so many votes? It's definitely the best modern park with the best classic look.

That said, Citizen's Bank is just ugly. From the lame brick wall batters eye (seriously? a brick wall?) to the exterior that looks like the outside of a factory.

Nationals Park is boring. The team has no interesting history so it's not so fair to say, but honestly, it's boring as all heck. Also the exterior. WTF? It's Washington DC, make it conform in some way. A stadium with roman architecture would look amazing, especially in DC.

That may be true in terms of esthetics, but as Joe Buck accurately described it a few weeks ago in a nationally-televised broadcast, it is a $1.5 billion bandbox. That aspect has to be considered a failure.

Price of a stadium/park has nothing to do with how it plays.

And don't ever quote Joe Buck again.

I think for the money that was spent on NYS and the expectations the fans had of it, it definitely has disapointed. I understand though that it is still a work in progress, and there have been modifications happening ever since the first game.

And congrats 80SHOCK on 1000 posts, when you get there!
