  • HoHoKam Stadium II nearing the end of the road?

    HoHoKam - Panoramic - From 1st V4T.jpg

Last week we posted HoHoKam Stadium as the newest update for http://www.digitalballparks.com. The ballpark may be looking at its final days as approval has been given for a new stadium to be built in Mesa for the Chicago Cubs. Though a bit utilitarian, there is certainly nothing wrong with this rather huge 13,000 seat Spring Training Park rebuilt in 1997. It is quite an enjoyable place to watch a game in. The HoHoKam tribe which own this park, have not gotten along well with the Cubs despite the many years that Chicago has played here. In fact, the main reason for this break is because the Cubs always wanted full control of this ballpark and the HoHoKams, who came up with the money for much of the construction and re-construction wanted to keep the maintenance and control of the park closer to home. The feud which has swelled to antagonism at times and then back to being "civil" has finally broken its final tie. There is talk luckily that Oakland will not let this grand ballpark "die" and they will take over in 2014. Still... at what cost? It means the end then of Phoenix Muni... a classic and stunning ballpark and the eldest in the league at this point. The complete history of this ballpark and 26 more photographs are now online at Digitalballparks.com

Sad. I hope this doesn't end up with another dual team Spring Training facility in Arizona. So many opportunities in Arizona for a team to have a stadium of their own....why do they insist on splitting with other teams?
