  • TD Ameritrade Park / Werner Park - Omaha, NE

I live in Omaha so I have been close to this whole debate. Just thought I'd weigh in... They actually built two parks out of this. One small minor league park for the Storm Chasers (formerly the Omaha Royals), one larger stadium for Creighton and the College World Series.

I have been to Werner Park (new home of the Storm Chasers) and I loved it. Much, MUCH better than Rosenblatt. Only problem is that it's a fairly long drive from my house. But worth it!

Will see a game at TD Ameritrade Park (for Creighton and the CWS) in a couple of days. I suspect this one will be just as beautiful.

Now don't get me wrong, I respect the history of Rosenblatt, but let's face it - its time had come and gone. It was too BIG for the O-Royals and too SMALL for the CWS. Plus, its concourse area was way too small and cramped.

    ----------------

Moderator's note: I suggest crossreferencing this thread with that focusing on Rosenblatt Stadium / Omaha Municipal Stadium.

I get it, times changed and the blatt was outdated, but to me it was like a fenway park or a wrigley field. Its carmpness and lack of modern amenities added to its charm and character. I also will always remember the shape of the press box that really was the defining shape of the stadium as something unique that I will miss.

Glad you guys got 2 stadiums out of it and hope they work out for you guys!

Are they moving the famed statue to the new place?
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

The 'Road to Omaha' statue? Yes, they did.

They also use the same Hammond organ.

Omaha Baseball (including Rosenblatt Stadium / TD Ameritrade Park)

So I am a vet of the College World Series in Omaha and think that the NCAA has made a huge mistake by moving the Series from Historical Rosenblatt Stadium to TD Ameritrade Park.

Even worse, I was looking up for pictures of the new stadium by going to the minor league team's website to see that their park is called Werner Park.

Why would they build a stadium for the minor league team and another one for the College World Series?

Does anyone here live in Omaha and can they explain this to me.

The problem with Rosenblatt was not only that it was old and obsolete and falling apart (although it was all of those things; true, Rosenblatt had much history attached to it, but in the end, its useful life was over), but also size:

it was too big for the O-Royals - now the Storm Chasers - and much too SMALL for the College World Series.

By having two new ballparks, that problem is avoided. Werner Park is a perfect size fit for the Storm Chasers, and TD Ameritrade Park has the space needed for the CWS. (Remember trying to park near Rosenblatt? Remember how much of a pain in the ass that was? )

Plus, the zoo needs the space where Rosenblatt was.

There will be a Zesto near TD Ameritrade Park as well. I believe the original Zesto will remain near the former Rosenblatt site.

I'll be heading up to Rosenblatt myself in about two weeks and will be sure to take pictures.

But, in the meantime, a detailed photo tour of the new digs can be seen here.

TD Ameritrade Park cost $130 million. For less than twice that much, it looks as if you could fully build the upper deck from foul line to foul line, some more outfield seating, plus a few more skyboxes (TD has 30), and have an ideally sized park for a small-market club such as the A's or Rays (KC should've built something like this downtown IMO).

The only problem I have with these new parks is the location of the scoreboard. At Werner Park, the board is in left field. At the Trade, it's way the hell off in RIGHT field. I hate it when ballparks do that. IMHO, the scoreboard should be dead center whenever possible. Reduces the amount of people who have to crane their heads to view it.

I checked out the link. Refreshing to see that it is not green like all the new parks. I know it is new and all but it would have been nice to make the outfield look a little like Rosenblatt or to even bring some of those seats over to have a link between the two.

The new parks with green seats are FREAKING HOT!!!! The green really absorbs the heat from the summer sun.

Nice stadium. But I still miss Rosenblatt.
