  • LaGrave Field - Fort Worth TX

The Fort Worth Cats, currently playing in the independent North American League, played their final game of the regular season tonight. The Cats have fallen on difficult times of late, losing their membership in the more established American Association because of credit issues. They've had a change of ownership since then, but over this past winter, there was a lot of uncertainty over whether the Cats would even field a team this year. I went to tonight's game, and I was sad to see such a low turnout. Since nothing is certain, I wanted to get a few shots of the ballpark before this season ended.

The current LaGrave Field opened in 2002 and is one of the few ballparks that features four dugouts. During excavation of the site of the original LaGrave Field (1926-1965), the original dugouts were found and preserved as "dugout suites" for LaGrave's reincarnation, which can be rented for a game.

      Here's a nighttime shot:

Fort Worth Cats baseball has a long history. For most of the early part of the 20th century, the Cats were a farm team for the Brooklyn Dodgers...LaGrave9.jpg

This looks like a very nice park to see a game in. Thanks for the addition!

Yeah, I agree. Surprising to see so few people. I think, in some ways, independent ball can be even more interesting than pro ball. For one, the parks tend to be more intimate.
        Put it in the books.

I saw this article in our local paper today, and it reminded me of this post from 2012...

LaGrave Field, once a proud north Fort Worth landmark and a tribute to the city’s sports history, today looks like something the cat dragged in.

          Makes me sad.

Shame. But the park lives on, in the thread you've created.
