  • Coca-Cola Field / Dunn Tire Park / North AmeriCare Park / Pilot Field - Buffalo, NY

I don't know if there is a better thread for this, but I couldn't find one. Coca Cola Field (Pilot Field/Dunn Tire Park) in Buffalo was built with the idea that it could expand if Buffalo was awarded a team in the 93 expansion. It could have an upper deck added to the top of the stadium. Pilot Field was HOKs first "retro" downtown ballpark. This is the only photo I have ever found of what the stadium would look like with its expanded upper deck.

If we continue this here are some pics, it doesn't look like our modern parks on the outside, but it's not bad.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

Here is a smaller version of the original pic in it's proper orientation.

It is an outstanding ballpark. While I am not sure that Buffalo could support a major league, it is nice to see what it would have looked like had one been given to the city.

Yeah I feel like this was during that time when the Bills were winning and Buffalo wasn't like it is today. My friend from there tells me its just not the same these days.

I went to a game there when it was Pilot Field in 1991. A full house with lots of activity and a great buzz in the air. Now it seems as if that is no longer the case, which is too bad. I get to Buffalo once a year for a Bills game and the feel around town is different, at least to me. Hopefully that will change as there seems to be a large effort to revitalize downtown, and the ballpark is smack in the middle of it.

buffalo never had a chance, the hype was good enough to get the place built.

Great ballpark find, Compadre! Starting a thread on it was entirely appropriate. I've slightly revamped the title for consistency's sake and have added it to the Quick Search thread. Unfortunately, there was not enough space in the title area to include the short-lived "Downtown Ballpark" moniker from the first part of the 1995 season, but that name's indeed included in the Index list.

                Very cool!
                Put it in the books.

Cool find. Wonder why there were no plans for a shade roof in the upper deck, at least as per that plan.

My original thoughts were that an expanded Pilot Field would have looked like New Comiskey, but from that plan, it actually looked like it would have been more interesting.
