  • Ballpark prices

I am doing a project on ballpark prices. I was wondering if anybody could give me any prices you can, from any era, for any ballpark, for items like hot dogs, tickets, souvenirs, any other types of concessions, any tickets from any era.

If you respond could you please give me the item, a year, and if a ticket where it was in the stadium.

    Thanks.

    Some of my own
Great American Ballpark front row tickets down the third base line, 2006: $30
Cinergy Field front row tickets down the third base line, 1997: $17
Riverfront Stadium front row tickets down the third base line, 1995: $11
Crosley Field front row tickets down the third base line, 1970: $3.50

Something you might want to address is the fairly recent trend toward tiered ticket pricing. Washington City Paper recently had an article on this topic. You can find it on their website but youi'll have to pay around $2.95 to access it as it's several weeks old.

I don't know if tiered pricing has been addressed on this board, but the idea is fans pay more for seats for games against the better teams. For example, what's usually a $40 ticket becomes a $50 ticket when the Yankees are in town. Apparently this practice started with the Red Sox.

I have some old ticket stubs from the 60s and 70s. If I can find them I'll post the prices.

Tiered pricing has become much more common in recent years. The Mets for example have around 5 different pricing levels depending on what team is in town. Some ballclubs tier based on what night of the week it is and still others based on what time of the year it is. The Dodgers have never tiered prices.

Another pricing phenomenon in recent years is the pricing of seats higher as you move from the corners toward home plate. It used to be that every seat on a particular level was the same price, but now the prices rise as you move closer behind the plate. Nearly every team does this nowadays.

                        1985 Three Rivers 600 level: $6
1992 Three Rivers 600 level: $8 (regular season)
                        1992 Three Rivers 600 level: $30 (NLCS)
1994 Three Rivers 600 level: $45 (1994 ALL STAR GAME)
                        1999 Three Rivers 500 level: $11
                        2000 Three Rivers 500 level: $13
2001 PNC PARK 300 Level: $16 (behind home plate)
2004 PNC PARK outfield reserved: $18 (RF/CF seats)
                        2006 HOME RUN DERBY: $125 (RF/CF seats)
                        2006 ALL STAR GAME: $200 (RF/CF seats)

They may be that much across the board (with the exception of home plate/club level) but considering what the game cost in 1994, that's some serious inflation.

I hate the idea of "tiered" pricing that some teams do. I'm glad the Pirates don't do that. I wonder if the teams that increase the prices when the Yankees and Cubs come to town discount those same tickets when the Bucs or D-Rays play...Not likely. Tiered pricing should apply to discounting tickets for lousy teams, if it increases prices for games against good teams.
                        LETS GO BUCS!!

Here are current Comerica Park prices for concessions, as posted by Charley "the opera singing hot dog guy"

                          Hot Dog: $3.25
                          Water: $3.50
                          Soda: $3.75

He still sells a lot of hot dogs (don't ask for catsup! Mustard, fine; but no catsup!) and does a little singing, but not as loud or as much as he used to.

My wife says she saw beer going for eight bucks. I can't imagine a beer worth that.

Oh, and if you have a digital camera, you know that this is only a small part of the picture. It's been cropped so you can see the concessionaire.
