  • Workout for young catcher

Lately I have found myself to be a Benji Molina speed baserunner.

Also, I need to strengthen my arm.

    Anything else is also appreciated.

I had that problem too. I thought that's why God invented the catching position -- so people like us would have a place to play. All you can do is to keep your weight down, if that's an issue, and use good baserunning techniques. Know pitchers, get a good jump, now what kind of risks to take and when. I had a bad hip then and it wasn't only that I was slow, but I had a hitch when I ran, which caused some teasing. Still, it subsided after awhile when kids realized that I knew what I was doing. Makes up for having speed but always leaning the wrong way.

As far as technique, we'd have to see yours. Most common errors are running flat footed and having the elbows fly away from the body. Practice running sprints so you don't do that.

Also, I need to strengthen my arm.
Attach one end of a bungie cord to an old tennis ball. Hook the other end to a chain link fence. Practice straight over the top technique. I'd go online and look for explanation of this "tubing drill" (I assume you don't have access to surgical tubing.)
sigpicIt's not whether you fall -- everyone does -- but how you come out of the fall that counts.

Power Hitter= no need to speed, None Power Hitter= Better get running, dude!

The only reason I am concerned about this is because I do not hit the ball as hard as I should.

For example, if I was a monster power hitter, I could smash a ball deep to the fence and cruise into second with a big silly grin on my face. That dream seems too far away from me right now.

The for example if I was a fast running catcher, I could hit a grounder between 2nd and 1st and run hard into second. That dream seems a lot closer at the moment, since when I did the crosscountry thing lately I was one of the top scorers.

If you want to improve your running... well practicing doing sprints. Because in baseball, running from home to first, home to third, first to third, that kind of running is.. well I forgot the word, but it deals with the muscles not having to use oxygen for the first 9-12 seconds or something close to that, and sprints work on building that up. Sprints and plyos..
Strengthen your arm, just throw more using proper throwing mechanics, do some med ball exercises to strengthen your mid section, etc...

          Hope dis helps
While I do prefer to interact with people in a gentle manner... I'm also not at all opposed to establishing my dominance in a reign of terror.

Ass to the grass squats, plyo, breathing technique, probably most important of all is to work on your running form, flexibility.....

not many people even if they are fast can hit a grounder between 2nd and 1st and run into second so.... if your worried about that its normal not to
