PS: Im going into high school next year and want to do relaly well in school. I would appreciate it if someone could explain a transcript a little more to me. thanx

A transcript is merely a record of your grades. If you hope for an academic scholarship go for straight A's and do a lot of extracurricular activities. Do volunteer community work. Develop whatever musical talent you have. Play a variety of sports, don't concentrate on just one for the time being. These days colleges are looking for well rounded candidates.

The chances of getting an athletic scholarship are smaller than getting a scholarship for some other talent or academic achievement unless you are a very talented athlete.

There is alot less athletic money in baseball and softball than you would think , compared to the total amount it costs to attend college ......when I was in school ( many years ago ) , I got 75% of my tuition based on SAT scores . and grades , and about 15% from baseball ..that was from only one school , and I really did'nt get many offers from anywhere else ....I paid the rest ...

I've coached girls for years , and the girls that get the big money , get alot more money for academics than softball skills ..... but you'll always hear about their 'full athletic scholarship ' , mostly from their parents ....on the other side , I've seem some dominant players with weak academics not getting into any 4 years schools at all ,and forced to attend a JUCO to try and get their grades up ....

And , as said allready , extracurricular stuff is huge ....

Usually private schools give pretty big and generous academic scholarships, even if you dont have the best grades.

I coach at a private school. BB is correct, the kids that get academic scholarships at my school are straight A students.

              Public schools are free.

The only schools that charge tuition are private and semi-private schools

His first post says he's going into high school. I thought he was talking about private high schools.

I went to a public college and I received academic scholarships in my sophmore, junior and senior years. This was for maintaining an A- average. I didn't have to pay any tuition during my last two years because the scholarship money got higher every year.

A 95 average should get you an academic sholarship. Even a 90 average will get you a scholarship at some schools. I'd encourage you to prepare for the SAT's and ACT's around grade 10 or so. Take courses or purchase a CD to help you on the exams. A 1200 to 1250 on the SAT will help with scholarships. I understand they changed it this year. Good Luck!

SAT/ACT prep courses are a waste of time and money. The SAT/ACT is designed to test what you learned in high school, if you want to do good on it then pay attention in your math class, learn some basic grammar rules, and learn to focus when you read. If you do that then you will get a good score on it.

Math section is just what you learned in HS... factoring and all that ****.

Science is just looking at experiments with results and spitting the information out reworded.

Reading section is self explanatory... read 5 paragraphs on a boring subject like womans rights, some philosopher that you dont care about, or something else that is boring then answer questions on it.

Grammar section is read a bunch of short essays and correct them.

I think they have a writing section now where you have to write an essay. Dont worry about that... with all the dopes that take the ACT/SAT the people who grade it will be used to seeing crap.
